I've been gone from the hobby for a couple years, and it's time to start again! I previously built a cruiser from a Giant Simple, aluminum frame, cruiser. I loved it, but couldn't keep it through circumstances. Now I'm back and ready to roll! I've been reading and searching, and now have a plan. I have ordered a Wal-mart 29" Genesis Onex, $162 after tax. I pick it up on Friday. I read all about the bike and builds and this and other sites, Rat Rod Bikes was one of the best regarding the actual bike. It requires a few simple upgrades to ensure reliability as a daily rider; rear hub rebuild, crank/pedal rebuild, and an over-all tightening and inspecting. I'll probably be changing the bars and strengthening the stem, swapping the...
I had so much fun with my first bike that I built. I had to do something else. So I put together this chopper with a finger throttle and a GoNads exhaust can on a large chopper frame with a big banana seat and backrest. It also has a single pull dual brakes, disk in front, drum in back. Here are some pictures: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/w31john/bikes/Chop001.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/w31john/bikes/Chop003.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/w31john/bikes/Chop004.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/w31john/bikes/Chop005.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v292/w31john/bikes/Chop008.jpg -------------------------------------- This is my first bike (Still fun to ride)...
here you go, folks...a great selection. thanks to all our entrants, and good luck :D  (some entries were not submitted correctly & i don't have time to search for bikes, or usernames, or both. also, some of these pics were huge! i'm no graphics expert and was forced to resize to get in under the maximum file size, i did my best) the filename of the pic is the username of the owner, hover your mouse over the thumbnail to see
Here's my project for the past few months. The knock Vegas bike. Tanks is of a 5051 kikker bike. Fred head 7.0 cc head, 40 mm intake jug, zaf80 connecting rod, silver wristpin from treat land, dellorto clone carb, machined intake manifold. Sick bike parts shift kit, throttle, killswitch, kickstand, and lighting hd cdi. All on a steel Shwin frame. This bike kicks ass. I have 250 trouble free miles on it and this is my first build. Bought it all piece by piece and took the advice of a well read experienced motorized biker. Started by truing the crank on a dialed indicator, then honed the cylinder in cross hatches at 45 degrees, polished the piston, polished the head of the jug perfectly from 300 - 1000 grit. I sealed the whole engine...
OK, here is the internet debut of this rare Motorbike. This bike is unrestored and is in as found condition after being stored for over 70 years. Built in Illinois by the Anthony Manufacturing Co. in 1935 as a prototype using the British Cyc-Auto 98cc 2 cycle motor. Pedal to start. They built 2 of these bikes, one mans and one womans but they never put them into production because the company (Cyc-Auto) that was to provide the motors was sold in 1936 to the British Scott Motorcycle Co. It seems the Scott Motorcycle Co. was not interested in selling motors to the American based Anthony Mfg. Company. A bit of history: Cyc-Auto is credited with being the company which started the Auto Cycles (what motorized bicycles were called...
I found an old Worksman Mover from the local Delphi plant at a barn sale a few weeks ago and the ideas started flowing. I wanted to build a daily vehicle to take me 4 miles to college and back at around a 15 mph average. Initially I had a 49cc moped concept using parts on hand. That quickly morphed into an e-trike build after fitment issues with the drive system on the initial mock-up. I'll be using one of those 1kw 48V eBay e-bike motor/controller kits for the front wheel powered by four 12350 (12V / 35AH) batteries in series. I found three 12V / 1 A solar panels and a controller for a song on craigslist. I'll step that up to 48V and let it top off my batteries while I sit in classes. Add a big ol' inverter and this thing would be a...
My current build is nearing completion. All components are mounted and the drive train is mostly debugged. It's nicely rideable as an ultralight motorcycle, no pedaling needed in most situations. It pulls away from stop easily in 1st , and top speed in 4th is around 32 mph, plenty for local traffic. Lack of neutral is annoying at stop lights. The motor is a 2009 Skyhawk2 "80cc", box-stock except for mounts and carb. Reliability is more important than performance at this stage of development. Once it's stable, I'll probably add a big-fin head and better exhaust. The most serious remaining problem is a violent chain oscillation and surging in 5th gear, which I think results from that specific set of sprocket ratios. There's no trace of...
Hello Family, always wanted to get into motorized bikes so I bought an all black Schwinn beach cruiser for my first build. Currently working on that one now. So then being the impatient person I am I wanted to buy one with a motor already installed. So I came across this vintage Schwinn. Dont know much about it, has a different Schwinn badge that I've seen, the rear spokes are larger than the front and has a license plate. Not sure if its 50cc or 80cc how can you tell? Runs and drives but doesn't idle. If you hold in clutch the motor revs high, of you go too slow engine bogs down a shuts off. Also see lots of fuel bubbling in the fuel filter. Any tips on the first things to do on an old moterized when you get a nice old one? Check out...
**Realized my original post in the 'introduce yourself' section was misplaced, reposted to this forum category.** Decided that a motorized bicycle would be a different project to add to the mechanic's resume, so here goes nothing! I found two vintage bicycles, one is a 19?? Schwinn "racer" that looks to be all original but needs to by tidied up (photo below) The other is an early 70's Free Spirit that seems to also be all original with time specific tire pump and rear rack (photo also below). My question for the MotoredBikes community is which, if either, would be a good starting point for a moto-bike build? From the photos I've seen and threads I've skimmed over the Free Spirits frame accommodates an engine kit more- that being...
