Here are some pictures of a rear mounted Chinese engine on a Walmart Mongoose double suspension bike. I used aluminum angle and the only tough part was the muffler extension. The cables needed to be replaced with longer ones. The ride is very smooth as you can imagine and after numerous tweaks to get it right, I am very pleased. I originally tried using rubber vibration isolators - Big mistake, it caused the chain to jamb and a sudden stop! Experience is a great teacher.
here are a few pics of some of my machines.will try to find disc with other and hopefully better pic later.first is display machine with 7 engines.from front to back mocyc, bsa winged wheel, sturmney archer, chinese 80cc,mosquito,powerpak & cyclemaster.second machine is kroxa russian engine.third is 1930s levis.fourth & fith are chinese 80cc engines and last is a 1950s sturmney archer engine on bike undergoing restoration.i have over thirty types of motor but not all on bikes.
Hey all my name is Matthew and I'm a motor-aholic. I think I screwed up big time today and decided in all my brilliance to build a motorized bike project. I'm not sure if I made a terrible decision or not but here is the bike I bought for my project. I'm a novice with mechanicals though I did use to work on bikes quite a bit in my mountain bike days and frankly I have a brown thumb when it comes to motors (just ask my non-running Vespa). So my project bike is the the Fito Modena GT Alloy 7 speed. I just liked the combination of features, front and rear disk brakes, build quality, custom fenders, forks, etc.. I would like to pair it with a black 2 stroke 66cc motor. I'm wondering what things I need to prepare for in doing this...
Well heres another "boardtrack" type bike that I just finished a few days ago. I started out just wanting to build a pretty simple motored bike, but after making up a few sketches, it turned out to be a bit of a motorcycle! Basics are: rear triangle off an old roadmaster bike, the rest of the frame is entirely handmade. Lifan 150cc, 5 speed. Got it up to about 50, but it has plenty more, plus one more gear! Built the tank and battery box from 16g sheet metal, solid! Fabbed the headset, bolt heads all linkages, rear brake, brackets, seat mounts, pedestals, sprocket started life as a quarter inch chunk of plate. Fenders are bought and wheels are worksman cycle with 11g spokes and front drum, excellent wheels! I still need to paint the...
Today, I returned home and for the first time, mounted my Flying Horse 66cc engine and I am very disappointed with how un-level the carb. is. The rear mount is solidly mounted and the engine is as low in the rear as possible (very near the chain guard) so, I'm not sure how to correct the tilting problem?? Add to that, the carb. is too close, and even under the horizontal tube, a full 1/2".. making the high performance air filter impossible to use. I'm happy with everything else. I'm just not sure how to correct the tilted carb? I wonder if I'm just overlooking something? Any solutions would be greatly appreciated...
Finally finished new bike!:D I really wanted to put a 110cc 4 stroke, 4 speed w a kickstart... but the engines weight alone freaked me out. Besides, I already had a pocket bike engine from a failed attempt at mounting it on a mountain bike with the wrong gearing (55t pocketbike sprocket) and wrong size tire (26 inch). Burned the clutch out in one day, and went slower than honey uphill in january. Also, I wanted to do a spoiler no one else did, no drilling of the frame, dual FRONT disc brakes(that work!),PEDALS , hidden gas tank, and a hotrodded pocketbike engine that was'nt bone stock. I hate stock anything! This is my first real posting of pics I hope this works.
Higher resolution pics coming, but these will get the point across....I'm tired, but not tired in the bike. Wanted to have a better background (a sunny Indiana corn field), but its pretty rainy here. That also means I ain't taking for its first ride fully completed- some day I'll ride in the wet- but not the first ride! I welcome questions about what I did and how.
Well, I decided to try out the new Hua Sheuy or whatever it's name is. I looked on the "Wall of Shame", for a bike that the motormount would fit without modifacation, and this lil former tank-bike, a Western Flyer, I think fit the bill! I screwed this lil bike together from parts lying in the breezeway work area. 2 or 3 yo wheelset with good new Cheng Shin "City Riders" or something. 44th sprocket, heated and bent Grube crank, Viscount saddle with old 5/8 in clamp on top, orig backrack, and I had to remove the chainguard. Bike runs good, accelleration is good, engine braking very nice for a auto-clutch. Gearbox has a significant whine which will supposedly decrease as it breaks in. I have no speedo, (yet) I will mount a Whizzer...
I have been itching to build a high end bike from the ground up on the cool Grubee GT2A frame designed specifically for motorizing from the in-frame 2.5L 2/3 gallon tank to the engine friendly frame geometry and I finally have my chance. I have a customer that wants a 4-stroke 3-speed shifter like Big Red, but without the 'barnacle' gas tank. I went through all the common options but as his budget grew so did the options until we got to GT2A frame which made for a ton more options. Anyway, other than a base color theme and look I had him start with from the options of 3-speed wheel sets I have a big pallet to work with. After an hour in my local bike shop with nothing but the bare painted frame and wheel set I got it on it's...
Hi everyone, ive had this baby for about half a year now and finally decided to make a build thread for it. It was a tough job building a bicycle from scratch as it gives you many choices to pick from. As If the frame wasnt crazy enough, i went ahead and put mountain biking rated forks on the front with a disc brake, and had a hayday with fitting disc brakes on the rear, but i succeded with thousanths of an inch to spare. i shoved a racing 2 stroke motor in it with porting, high compression, a mikuni carb, and a racing exhaust. Ive invested some serious bread in this build because its my hobby and my toys bring me joy. I love to talk about my bike and could all day, as ive modified and replaced every part on the bike, even in the motor...
1922 Elgin in original barn find condition. I set out to build my first SickBikeParts Jackshaft shifter kit bike on a nice new Giant Suede 3-speed coaster. It is a heavy duty beach cruiser with front and seat shocks, but a low top bar clearance to bar and the pedal crank is forward of the seat post. I ordered the 2010 model in the top pic but the only thing they had that was black was the 2009 in the lower pic. I love the bike and it looked like everything would fit. I got the JackShaft kit assembled fine too. Yes, I painted the mounts to match the shiny new Grubee black 66cc GT5 motor with 11 coats of engine paint ;-} But when I went to install it with the crank so far forward and as low as I have to mount the motor the chain hits the motor...
1937 shelby cadillac tuner So a buddy of mine (sloppy kidricer sin) passed along his MB addiction to us. For years he had been raving about these things, and after hemmin and hawin about gettin a slew of craigslist motorcycles, decided to go the MB route since i've got a ton of old stagnating bike parts, plus they look like alot of fun. Also, wanted a project that wasn't as much time intensive as the hot rods and stuff i've got going. (little did I know so far!!) So anyway my favorite fat-tire frame is the pre-war shelby, and coincidentally had the perfect wrecked frame for this build. A couple months back, i'd tried to fix the bottom bracket area with a donor girls shelby bike, but didn't realize the angles weren't the...
Hi, I finally got my winter project ready to ride...I decided on a Subaru-Robin 4 stroke 35cc & Front belt drive powertrain providing 2 wheel drive (since I am an avid cyclist & enjoy pedaling). The front drive is a rim hoop, JB welded to the front rim & an automotive standard notched 78" V-Belt with a skateboard wheel tensioner & a 1.5" front V-pulley from McMaster Carr. The gear ratio is similar to a friction drive without the need for jackshafts or further reduction. The mount is just some steel bar & 'L' brackets found at the local Lowe's Home Improvement store. I wanted to keep this project cheap & under the price of any kit available such as Gebe/BMP/Staton/Friction & with no welding. I am good at hacksawing & drilling but...
Still my same bike but my first thread is so old and it's come quite a ways since I first put it together, so I wanted to start over with a clean fresh new thread. Here's my current build, based on a 1997 Gary Fisher Mamba. Here's how she used to look: And here's what started the change: After this happened, one thing led to another, and, well...here she is. PARTS LIST: Engine -66cc China Girl --No-name billet head --No-name MZ65 replica --DIO reed valve --19mm OKO carburetor (GENUINE, not the all-too-common Chinese knockoffs) --Windowed piston --Sick Bike Parts shift kit --Jaguar CDI (on its way) Front end -Monark Type II front fork and headset -Shimano HB-M475 front disc hub (on its way) -TRP HY/RD hydromechanic front disc...
