Got sidetracked in a google search and ended up at kingsmotorbikes.com. Saw an 80cc engine kit, and thought "hey, that would be fun", so I bought it. Hopefully it'll be showing up soon. Then I drug my old 18speed mountain bike out of the basement (been sitting there for about 5 years) and put new tires on it. Then I started reading up on what in the heck I'm going to be doing. I think it's safe to say that I'll probably either kill myself or be arrested within a week, but maybe fate will smile on me and I'll be alright.
I've tried to find out if it's legal here, but the message i'm getting is "yes it's a motorcycle and you have to register it with the dmv and have insurance/liscense/endorsement"(local police), and "No, it's a bicycle. We won't register it because there is no way to prove it conforms to EPA and DOT standards, so you'll just have to hope the police don't ticket you" (DMV guy). Don't know what I'm going to do so far, but I'll figure it out.
I'm 26, live in Oregon, and like I said, I haven't ridden a bike in almost forever, but I thought this would be a good idea to get back into it.

HI,
Welcome....Because you purchased one of the larger engine kits it will most likely technically require a license (the cut off point in most states / areas is 49 or 50 cc...under it and they won't or can't bother you)...Of course just looking at the engine it would be hard for anybody to tell without actually measuring for the actual displacement.

Hope this helps.

welcome!
like any bending of the law, riding one of these things in a way that puts no one else in danger goes a long way to avoiding tickets!

Welcome to MBc. It seems like there are quite a few riders in Oregon. I haven't heard of any of them having legal probs.
