G'day Folks,
I have been lurking for a while now and figured I was way over due to pipe up and say hello.

My current ride is a Greenspeed GLR, I have been seriously considering going down the power assist route for a while now and have already done a couple of back flips on how I am going to do it.

I was initially planning on one of the micro Honda 4 strokes, driving through a CVT to one the the HD hubs with the LH freewheel. But I can't bring myself to listen to an infernal combustion engine.

For now, I am pretty much settled on Cyclones new 650w motor, and a ping LiFePO of at least 20 Ah/ 24v. I don't have the ground clearance, or a straight chain path to let me use the motor 'in-line'. So I am tossing up either the Elation or Swiss freewheeling crank. Or possibly putting a tandem stoker crank on the LH side and driving that direct with the Cyclone. Not sure yet if I am happy to HAVE to pedal with the motor running.

It is all going to boil down to the various costs of the freewheeling cranks. 140 Euro plus freight is a **** expensive set of cranks, but I am still waiting on a reply from Elation. Update, just got a reply from Elation. Looks like I will have to ante up for the Swiss freewheel :|

Questions for those who have been there, what sort of range are you electric guys getting per AH ? I fully understand there are a huge number of variables, just after an indication.

I need to be able to do my run to work, 30k return, basically flat, at around 45 kph ish. will the 24v/20Ah cover this comfortably?

I want to do assisted 50 to 100 km max rides. Thinking of getting two packs of 20 AH, and running them in parallel. Is there any reason this can't be done? , I would separate them for charging.

All of you guys are great! Read the electric sections, then post detailed questions and someone will perk up

Hehe, no slight intended. I am part closet greenie, but I also operate small steam locomotives as a hobbie, so I am a bit biased against IC engines. :)

Welcome !
I hope to see electric bicycle long distance issues solved.

But for now it seems the IC 2-stroke HT is proving a winner in many aspects of commuting in regards to affordability, for me so far it's been reliable. Maintaining can be a bit of a constant challenge, but it's not all that complicated and can be worked to a routine once the common bugs are sorted.
Lot's of info here, fotos and history on the motoredbike.

All the Best

Welcome to MBc. Have you checked out the Bionx system Utah Trikes puts on the WhizzWheelz Path? The same setup should work well on the Greenspeed. I don't really know much about the electrics (I'm allergic to electricity), but I will say that these tadpoles are an amazing platform for motorization. Keep us updated.
