10 speed to recumbent project

When you get the bottom bracket on there, it will be longer, at least the length of the crank. You need to get a backrest on there too (got any more of those sissy bars sitting around?). When you are pedaling, you will be pushing against the seat back, instead of against gravity as we do on conventional bikes. Bear in mind that it is a totally different riding position, so it will of course feel weird for a while. If I were you, I'd proceed with the build per the instructions, but leave options (and your mind) open for ideas that you may incorporate to improve the thing once you have it working. In the long run, you may want to raise the bottom bracket above the level of the seat. I think there may be possible improvements in the chain line if that's done.

van, i was actually thinking of doing just that, but i want to get it all set up 1st, cause i already drilled one hole, and i dont want my bike to look like swiss cheese lol. plus with this setup, i could do a happytime in the future...i think instead of using an idler, ill use 2 derailurs (i have one from a previous bike plus the cut up one) that way, i just use 4 metal screws. plus that leaves me open to make changes, seeing as theyre spring loaded. what do you guys think of that?

this may sound stupid, but im thinking of using my old executive desk chair lol (the ones that tilt back) but i might go with the plywood thing, and then get some kitchen chair tie on cushions, and staple them on. oh, and i still have the sissy bar, but thats a little small for me...

lol large. oh, i was thinking... i think i might just steal your idea rather than use a skateboard wheel... (idler pully deal)

this is where im at so far. but i gotta move the peddels back at least 6 inches. when i went to sit, the family jews were rubbing on the handlebar stem lol
