Does anyone have experience with the different GEBE gears?

I'm thinking about branching out into a highway gear (on an eho35). Should I break in engine first?
Does the gear really make that much difference on the high end?
Do I have to peddle up to what like 10 mph due to lost low end (I weigh about 215 lbs on a good day)?
Is it a hassle to switch out (5 minutes, 10 minutes, about how long does it take?)?
How about the one with 14 teeth?

Overall is it worth it?
any other thoughts on the GEBE gears?

I have the 12 and 13 gear. I can switch from one to the other in under a couple of minutes.

But I like the 12 gear, especially for city driving. A lot more get up and go when crossing busy intersections with only a stop sign. The 13 gear takes awhile longer to stretch its legs.

Just dont do what I did. I tried to turn the motor shaft instead of the gear. It really really tightens the gear onto the shaft if you do that. Turn the gear while holding the shaft with the allen wrench. Now that I have it figured out it should only take a couple of minutes. I switched to the 13 gear and noticed a higher speed. I mainly am on the highway. I am going to look into the 14 gear. I dont think that it matters if the engine is broken in or not because when I order my kit they asked me if I wanted the 13 gear installed.

What speed do you peddle to before giving it gas with that gear? What kind of low end power does it have? and what would you say is your top mph on the 13 compared to the 12? thanks

guys,

as a result of playing around with the drive pulleys on my bike, i found that in my case, each tooth up or down was about 600rpm diff at same speed and about 2.5mph diff. at topend.

the real diff. is in take off power and midrange cruising. engine, terrain and wind conditions are large factors. too big a gear and hills and headwind can pull you done unacceptably.

under 40cc i doubt you'll like the 14T.

14 Tooth

I have the 14 Tooth on the Tanaka 40 I bought from Jim. It is too fast for a bicycle. I am probably going to try the 13 when I get back into town and see how much it helps to low end. Just my opinion. It's really great to have the extra power but it might be better utilized for torque instead of top end. My son came home from his military deployment and he is buzzing all over the local area with it because he has not had time to get a car setup. He would disagree on the speed in sure.

here's a interesting note.

when using the 14T if i'm not very careful about belt tension and how much throttle i use transitioning from 35-40mph i can still spin the belt.

when using the 15T i can get to 45mph without incident though , i think because i'm getting there ahead of the peak power band.

so, anyone have an opinion about what the likely outcome would be by trying the 13T ? i have a suspicion that since the engine will be free to rev even easier and earlier that the belt problem will be even more pronounced.

someone have a 13T i can borrow or buy, i'll pay shipping both ways if you want it back.

thanks,
steve

Hi,

Im curious whether i could get hold of a 15T for the long ride I have planned (8k miles or so) would mean a decent cruise at 30 without beating up on the motor too much and lower rpms would save the belt too..

The ride is for charity - I'll get in touch with GEBE and see if they'll offer me sponsorship I think - 8k on one of their engines would be a selling point :)

JemmaUK,

my daughter, Kaimana Rose Detamore, was born with a very rare heart condition that was treated by several "teaching" care facilities, in the process of her care the medical community learned some very important things that have since made a real diff. for others with the same problems.

my daughters birthday was yesterday, had she lived, she would have been 23 yrs. old.

i will provide you with any material support help i can in her name.

please PM me.

Thank you Steve, and I am sorry to hear Kaimana is no longer on this plane.

I am doing this for Childrens Cancer charities in the main since my partner has cancer and has had it on and off since she was young..

I will pm you tomorrow since it is 1:50am here and sooo hot at the moment. I need to sleep so my brain will function.

thank you again for your offer
