Sprockets My Sprocket mounting bolts striped? Will this work?

Ok, my idea is since I cant find a hex head bolt in any hardware store around me, I thought that I could just make 9 bolts by using a threaded rod. I got one from homedepot under the pretence of fixing another bike engine, things didnt work out, however, i got like 2 feet of rod. I tought maybe I can loctite one side and use washers, and lockwashers, then put another bolt on the other side where the rubber spacer goes? you guys think the threaded rod will break or bent? After all I am using 9 bolts?lol give me some feedback.

I'd think it would work, but it seems like the hard way to do it. If you have a NAPA store near you, they should have hex heads.

It would work fine....more effort than the original but can't be any worse.

I had the same problem, bought some new hex bolts at a lawn mower shop.

You can't find ANY hex bolts in town... or the same size as original? As long as they fit through the sprocket it doesn't matter what you use.

while working in small engine repair shop
we always found - the right - good hardened bolts to use

I hear a lot about these threaded Home Depot rods
just wondering -- how fast does a hack saw cut through one of these rods ?
can I bend one of these rods over my leg ?
are they truly as hard as an hardened bolt ?

yes - kerf -- I also am confused

our local hardware store -- has a massive collection of nuts and bolts
that's my kind of hardware store...

and I just need to ask -- one more time
how strong are these rods -- ones keep talking about ?

I haven't shopped for rods lately
but -- the last time I did
seems like I could bend these rods -- very easy...

If you go to a "big box" hardware store, you will be disappointed more often.

However, I have seen the proper sized bolts at Menards and Sears Hardware. I prefer a locally owned Ace or True Value. They have incredible options in bolts.

Will threaded rod work? yes, but nuts on the end of rod will stick out a fair amount. Also, seems like too much work to me. This coming from a guy who took 13 months to build a bike.

My local Ace not only stocks a full line of grade three bolts but metric, grade 6 and grade 8. To add insult to that, about the same distance is a industrial bolt supplier that has never let me down. I'm lucky I guess.
