Sick Bike Parts (SBP) is introducing an air cleaner for the stock HT carb.

It can't hurt. Also, fenders on your bike will stop water from spraying all over the the motor.
 
I've got Freddy fenders on my hawg! I think they are the glue that ties together the look of my bike.

I think if you are riding in that much water, your electricals will have an issue before water intake.....
 
Not trying to put your product down, just wondering. Theoretically, if one had sealed the hole that receives the ignition wires on both the engine and cdi with a silicon sealant and the gasket that houses the magneto was sealed, the only way the electical could short would be the spark plug boot or the spark plug connection at the cdi (both of which could be sealed with silicone). I'm thinking that I might make a shield that protects the top and maybe part of the sides from direct water contact. I'm sure that the SBP filter is lots better than the stock one at dealing with water contact, it's just that I've never considered it before.
 
Trust me I didn't take it as a put down.

It would be a wet and slippery ride to find out how much water it would take! I think as long as the intake wasn't fully submerged you would be OK.

Here is something interesting, we could have pursued an air cleaner with a shield, but it is MUCH (almost 2x) as tall as the current one and would not fit on many bikes, although it fit on mine.

Speaking as one with wat too much experience with rain (just endured 21 days of non stop rain again :yuck:) water doesn't seen to be too much of a problem as far as air intake is concerned. The worst that will happen is if the air cleaner gets a direct splash, the engine will temporarily go to a rich condition. This is not only with MAB's but other small engine equipment as well. I have a concrete saw that is virtually bathed in water during operation, and the biggest problem is that after the filter dries, the crusty residue has to be tapped off. Electricals on a Happy Time are another matter. Mine ended up looking like silicone blob, and I would still have problems. Worst part is that many times the components checked out OK or close to OK. Condensation inside the mag cover was one of the problems I think. Never could figure out how we can have 85% humidity standing in a pouring rain. Still looking for the ultimate solution.
 
You guys ride in that much rain??? Crazy!

I already got my SBP airfilter. Niceand easy to install looks solid probably outlast my bike haahahahahaha

I'm just glad to be rid of that silly stock filter which is just some louzy mesh.
