I finally realized why they call it Crappy Time...

I hope this doesn't turn into a bash HT thread. Suffice to say, they take work to make work well and more work to keep them running well. That being said, the dollar to smile ratio cannot be beat. My frame mount Honda 4 stroke took work to get right, but at way more than twice the price, is it way more than twice as fun?

Is a BMW 330i better than a '97 Grand Am? Of course, but both will get you there and carry the same stuff. One is not right and one wrong. the economists call it opportunity cost- i call it- you don't get somethiing for nothing.

I just want to -- Ride That Thing !!!!

and that's about what it all boils down to

there was a time when all that I could have afforded would be a HT
and back then working on things was half the fun

then came a time when working on things ----
the trill was gone as sung by BB King

and much thanks goes out to the big guy upstairs
I have been blessed with a little more money today

making it easier for me to buy a quality engine

cause deep down inside today all I truly wish to do is

Ride That Thing Mountainman

We all know that HTs are not the Cadillac of bike motors.

But if mine dies tomorrow, I'll be able to order a new one tomorrow evening.
(Okay, if it caught me at the worst possible time I'd have to spend a few days scraping up the last 80 bucks or so. But that would be rare)

I think it was Warner, a few posts above, who mentioned cost-fun ratio.
On that issue, HTs are hands-down the winner.

And that's priceless.

They're something like and old Volkswagen Beetle or a Plymouth Valiant; bottom of the barrel, but, oh, so lovable.

well u got very unlucky, although these happytime arent 100% as there cheap so you have to do your bit while installing to make sure things like wat happened to you doesnt happen. U always gotta check the idle screw, u may of had it out a bit to much and it vibrated out. Chain tensioner falling off could of been due to u not tightening the nuts enough. The chain could of come off because wen installing the chain u put the U Clip the wrong way and when going along it caught something and undid your chain so again could of been user error. Fuel lines sometimes do leak so that isnt ur fault. Sprocket bolts snapping could of been due to over tightening or just **** bolts. All the other nuts and stuff that came out is due to vibrating out. Sometimes in the factory they dont tighten all nuts up enough like ur clutch so u gotta go around the engine and test them. Well hope it all works now, cya!

Please don't put the Valiant and the volkswagen in the same sentance...

Yup, and so it goes. Then you'll have $300 (or whatever) into it. My riding buddy ended up with 3 HT engines to keep one bike running. I guess that's pretty cheap fun but I'll pass.

Earlier this summer I bought a Mitsubishi new in box off ebay for a $100 and a bikemotorparts drive for $150. I ride it every day and honestly all I do to it is gas and oil. I look it over actually looking for something to tinker on but it's so **** dependable I end up just cleaning and lubing the bike.

I'll admit this much; if I could get a good engine, such as a Mitsubishi, and a drive kit for a total of $250.00, I'd definitely consider it.

But I don't feel a strong urge to do it at the moment. I'm pretty satisfied with what I've got.
