My HT's exhaust gasket has been blown for a while now and I have oil all over the motor. I'm going to fix it so I want to clean the motor up a little bit. I was thinking that I could just cover the wiring/magneto and spray some type of degreaser on it and then hose it off.

Does anyone else clean their motor? If so, how do you do it?

this pink spray from the bike shop cover your vitals carb mag if it leaks spry it on and wash it off lightly. stuff takes oil off but don't harm seals and gaskets.

Some really good stuff that I've used for heavy duty degreasing is Purple Power. Do a 50/50 mix of that stuff with some water, put it into a spray bottle, spray it, leave it there for a few minutes and hose it down. Man, that stuff will have the dirtiest engine looking sharp.

Try to keep it off of anything rubber, because it will suck the moisture out of it over time. It will also suck the moisture out of your hands so wear rubber gloves if you care about dry hands.

wonder if that dirt slows me down ???

you have already mentioned the most important (MAIN THING)
take your time while covering those wires
and sealing the spots where wires go into your case

YES - most any degreaser will work just fine
auto stores sell those heavy duty cleanning brushes pretty cheap
they work so fine

although in the end it's kind of hard to be rid of the bubbles
Dawn dish washing detergent -- is also GREAT on grease

my engine is also do for a wash job
can't say enough about that brush -- my buddy gave me yet another one

wonder if that dirt slows me down when I -- RIDE THAT THING ???
