Grubee Special Cruiser Frames & Prototype Belt Drive

I haven't heard of a Giant cruiser bike. Are you talking 2 stroke bike mounting or 4-stroke? I think the quality would be better than a mid range Giant because the frame is steel and the wheels are 12 guage spokes and axles etc built for motors. The front suspension would be similar quality I reckon.
There was a Giant cruiser a few years back that had front V-brake, rear coaster, rigid forks, 3 piece crank and a top tube like a Felt cruiser which makes mounting a tank difficult. It had nice mudguards, a suspended saddle post and nice stem. They discontinued it. There's always heaps of drawbacks to brand name cruisers and these create added expense to overcome. I reckon the Felt Heritage is about the most easily adapted cruiser for a 4-stroke frame mount but I'm not totally sure there is space enough for the engine & tray and I can't get to see one in the flesh. It has practically everything a good 4-stroke needs except for a good rear rack and a suspended saddle post so that's another Aus$100 to add on.

Sorry to confuse you but i meant compared to giant bikes in general, I have a giant uplander at the moment (lots of problems), 2 stroke mounting but will it fit both incase i upgrade later
thanks Ben

Sorry to disappoint you but your Upland will not be suitable for a frame mounted 4-stroke unless it is the XL but even then the engine & tray probably won't fit in the frame. The front derailleur can't be used with a 4 stroke because the wide crank won't allow it. Better to keep it as a 2-stroke and get a decent cruiser to mount the 4-stroke in. The Giant cruiser was the Giant Simple Single & Simple Seven. They still make them for some markets but not Australia. I'm not sure about the room in the triangle of the frame but there are better cruisers for the price. The 2009 Simple Seven has 2 V-brakes which is a good point at least.

the uplander is a SE model 23inch, i was asking weather the Grubee cruisers can take both 2 stroke and 4 stoke, so i can take off the 2 stroke off my uplander and on to the Grubee frame

There is more than one type of frame but the blue one takes both 2&4 stroke.

Take a look for yourself.
I'm not aware of anyone importing them yet cos you have to take a container load and that will put off most importers.

Gday Irish, theres a fella on Zbox site under "builders" used the electra cruiser. kept the stock cranks, modified the tray to sit motor up high. ive been mucking around with these 2 strokes for a while but i recon ill grab one of these electras and have a crack at the 4. only draw back is coaster brake on the rear and dont think they are to cheap, but quality is quite good.

The quality is excellent if you are talking about the Model1 cruiser but there is no front brake and although Electra make an after-market springer fork it has no brake and is thus of no use. Rigid forks are not great on a 4-stroke because of the increased speed. You need 2 brakes and the front one has to be a good brake. A coaster brake is practically useless as well - on any bike, motorised or not - and it stops you back pedalling to position the pedals so they don't hit the road on corners. With increased crank width your pedals will hit the raod very easily. There are a lot of bikes that are lovely but almost impossible to motorise well. I'm trying to find out if a Felt Heritage can fit an engine - either it can only just fit one or it can't because it's down to millimetres but I haven't been able to measure one in the flesh. The Heritage is almost the perfect bike because it has 2 V-brakes, mudguards, strong alloy frame, 7 speed derailleur gears and a great shape but it's hubs have a big flange that might not fit the bolt holes in the standard sprockets. Unfortunately the downtube is straight and not goose-necked like most Californian Beach Cruisers and that probably makes it too tight for the engine tray.
TheSchwinn D7 is an OK bike and has springer forks with brakes but it's internal 7 spd rear hub and coaster brake are a real drawback. So also is its weight which only a Honda can handle - the HS just can't take the weight of the beast.
I definitely want front suspension on a 4-stroke because it really adds to the comfort.
Can't think why that guy kept the original crank when you can get the good old wide 1 piece. It would be really nasty to pedal with narrow cranks under the motor just for the sake of a few extra bucks. Also the motor mounted high will affect the look of everything and also the line of the drive train.

gday Irish,

Those tank frames, can they both accomodate a 4stroke? one looks to have bigger tank, but has 2stroke mount? price?

Don't know about the tank frames cos they don't interest me because:
A) The tank only holds a thimblrfull of fuel
B) If the tank leaks you are in trouble and the tank IS BOUND to leak cos it's made in China.
Re the price - well the price is whatever the importer wants to charge and so far there are no importers so the first one will have a monopoly.

I think MBB imports in Sydney will probably have these cruisers that accomodate the 4stroke down the track. He has put a note on his site saying complete 4stroke and bike available soon. Finding decent shocks for these small 1inch headsets on the cruiser type frames has been pretty hard. The cheapest I got quoted was around $350. The quality of the china gas ones looks very average but I think they would still be better than having no shocks at all. Great to see the motorised bike is still evolving!

MBB is eventually getting the GT1 which is the cheapest available & not very good...George would have done much better to select the StarFire Gen11 so as usual it's a step in the wrong direction.
I'm in the process of modifying some Rock Shox(Judy C's,1 1/8" steering tube)to accept 1" steering tube but till then i'm using a standard 1" Onmi 156E suspension fork(AU$70) on my Electra Cruiser.
