Buy A New Whizzer And Begin Worrying!

Well friends, soon I'm going to buy a new 2006 NE5 Whizzer, and the first thing I'm going to do is to wonder when:

The Valve Lifters Will Fail

The Clutch Hub Will Fail

The Head Gasket Will Fail

The Coaster Brake Will Fail (if I buy the slip-clutch model)

I wonder if there was ever a time in Whizzer history when you bought the bike and never had to be concerned about any failures for a long time?

Well...if this is the way things are today, then I'm glad we have people like Quenton!

Well Hal, I can only help you with two of these. My coaster brake hub failed at 168 miles. The left side spoke flange broke free and slid to the center of the hub. I have about the same amount on the new one without any trouble (yet). My lifters needed replacement at around 300 miles. I wouldn't even wait that long, get a set of mushroom lifters from Quenton as soon as possible, as you'll also see in increase in performance due to the new lifters. My head gasket is still in good shape, but I do have a new copper gasket waiting in the wings (along with a modified head) for when it's needed. But right now mine is running so well and so strong I'm going to wait until I start seeing the tell-tale signs. Then I'll replace it.

Thanks for your encouragement!

Many here have commented on the necessity of making their Whizzers "bulletproof", and it looks like that has to be done because these Taiwan-built machines are "soft" in a few areas.

Since I'm getting my NEW 2006 NE5 at a really good price, I can afford the "armor plate" for the bulletproofing!

Hi Hal, you won't be disappointed. I bought a new 2007 NE5 in May of 07 not noing anything about them other than they were neat looking. I stumbled across this site one day and read for months learning all I could. Finally got brave enough to do some of the upgrades mentioned to you plus a few more.
With the help of Quenton, Bill Green, and Motorbike Mike, just to mention a few from this forum, the parts they supply and their technical help made working on the bike very easy. GO FOR IT!!

I haven't been answering your posts because I barely know the difference between a Whizzer and a hole in the ground.

But I can't help noticing that you've got plenty of enthusiasm. Not unlike a child waiting for Christmas.

You're bound to have fun. And you have willing info sharers here.

Even if your bike needs a helping hand every now and then, it looks to me like you'll do fine.

I appreciate all your comforting remarks, but I'm certainly not new to this world of gasoline-powered vehicles!

At my age of 72, I've owned 24 automobiles and 7 motorcycles, and I even built a motorbike back in the 50's using an 8 dollar lawnmower engine fitted to a bicycle, with the help from the welding outfit of our neighborhood blacksmith / mechanic!

I'm asking a lot of questions on THIS forum because the Whizzer is a different breed of Cat, and there are Specialists who reside here!

I know I'll be fine, and it's great making everybody's acquaintance!
