Tubes No More NoMoreFlats

I thought I learned a lesson with MOOP ONE because this happened with that bike too. I thought it was a fluke.
It seems these solid tubes do well on the wheel that the engine does not drive. But have one on a driving wheel and you'll run into problems.
I'll let the pics speak for themselves. Notice how my spoke protector just wrapped up inside.
Amazingly I was 5 miles away and I rode home safety. But it was hard on my wheel. I lucked out and my wheel still straight when I replaced all that with a different tire and a slime tube and it runs with far less rolling resistance now.
No more solid tubes for me. Next time I get a flat I'll patch it up or replace the tube.

from the pictures -- they seem not to be perfected yet !!!

but seeing that and thinking about a FAST downhill run

Sometimes at a light so people can say "cool" I would lift up my front end a little and do a burnout.
No more of that,man.
But the tube failed because when installed it's not perfectly "inflated" like it would be if it had a regular tube in there and the rim just pinches down on the sidewall leading to what you see.
 
You mentioned my arch nemesis, slime tubes. Having put myself through school working in a bike shop I learned to hate them. They only work on very slowest leaks, any decent sized puncture and it just looks like someone shot the monster from alien next to your bike.

Specialized Armadillo tires are amazing. Not cheap, but you -won't- flat on them if you're properly inflated. I've had courier friends ride them 9-5 for a year without a flat.

Did you have any noticible speed increase going back to a traditional tube? I know under pedal power solid tubes are like riding with ankle weights, the extra horsepower get you past that?
 
I did actually notice a significant improvement. The rolling resistance is so much better and it's significantly smoother too.
 
WOW!!!! The tire ripped! :eek: I've ripped two tires with tubes in them, but never a no-mor-flats!

Curiously, what size tire is that? I'm running a 26" 1.75 (1.75-1.95 on the box) no-mor-flat with a 1.95 tire and it's fine, but I'd never run it on a 2.10 or bigger. My Engine also doesn't drive my tire, but I did also build a 6.5HP 20" wheeled trike with no-mor-flats and have had NO problems but just a bald tire after a while from tirespin, but I also used skinny tires on the trike. They do also sell fatter no-mor-flats.

I have a feeling the (PSI) of the no-mor-flats has a lot to do with it, and a fatter tube for the scale of the tire is needed.

That worries me, because for my new bike I'm getting a 24 inch rear wheel to be engine-driven, and plan on using a no-mor-flat tube in it. I don't want a blowout like LF had. I've never had the problem of the tire being pinched or moving on the rim, but I see it could happen.

I wonder if you could get a refund, they are GUARANTEED to not blowout.

I do have to agree that they have a lot more rolling resistance, not noticeable with an engine, but when you go to pedal, it's hard.

Good luck LF with your new tire. I hope we eventually get to a point where you only worry about flats on cars.

no more flats air free tube

I have armadillos front and rear. the rear has a correct fitting nomor flat air free tube in it not the 1.75 to 1.95 BS that wal mart sells. My 2.0 nomor flat fits very snug in the 1.95 armadillo. No rim slippage on my winneman heavy duty rim thats laced to a staton chain drive hub. Confucius sez--- tire + Loose fitting nomor flats tube + burnouts = :sick::cry::rolleyes: slipping rim on tire bead and tire failure
I special orderd my nomor flat tube via a bike shop
