Through The Winter -3

Some folks have all the luck.

You have good weather. And for us space buffs, you've got an actual Saturn 5 rocket in your neighborhood.

I gotta tell you, man, Huntsville is sounding pretty good right now.

lol yeah, it's nice if we could only get it to stop raining long enough to get some good riding in. The high today was 68 and rainy :) :( The space center is about 5 mins. from my house.

I ride everyday to work on homemade studded tires. The other day/night it was -7 and snowing who knows what the windchill was when I left for work at 2:30 am to plow snow. I thought about buying studded tires but went with homemade and have zero regrets. Total cost 1 $15 kevlar tire, 1 used tire $5 worth of screws and 2 hours. I passed at last count 100+ cars on a hill the other day.

Ride till your nose falls off.

What length of screws did you use?

MyPC8MyBrain, what's your altitude in CO? Did you have to lean out the carb on the HT? I don't know if you can adjust the carb on those things. Like I said, i'm a dummy. Hats on to you. :giggle:

Simonator, That's also some serious MBing! You are a truly dedicated rider. Do they salt or mag.chloride the streets you ride? Hats on to you! :giggle:

rkbonds, Your situation dosen't count as winter. You get to wear a different hat  (kidding) Enjoy the ride.

Just old fashion salt! I'm still riding on bald tires because I haven't been able to afford new ones. It sure is an adventure! There is about a foot of snow outside right now!

The screws I used are #8x1/2" lath. Drill 1/8" hole from the top through each lug you want a stud in then insert screw from the bottom. The amount of and placement of studs can vary depending on your needs, I have 80 in the rear and 120 in the front.
After all the studs are in the tire, take and old tube cut out the valve stem and cut the tube along the inside so it will wrap around a your inner tube (use a heavy duty tube with slime). Use a tire linner, I am using pond linner cut to fit.

My winter wear consists of ski bibs, down coat with outter coat, ear flap hat, neoprene face mask, goggles and,ski gloves all water and wind proof.

Interesting topic, possibly because I cracked a couple of ribs three days ago. For me it's always my front wheel that slides out so fast that I hit the ground and always seem to land on my shoulder. On my last wipeout I had to lie in the wet snow in the middle of the road because I knocked the wind out of my lungs. There I was with my bike laying on top of me, fighting for breath, thinking about the sound my ribs made as I landed.
Thank God for Tylenol 3, it hurts so bad I can't even cough without hurting.
