Wheel balancing!

Noticing wobble at about 5-15mph (almost like a tire lump) when starting out and was wondering if you guys balance your wheels. Or it just may be the motor stroking over untill it gets to higher rpm? The timing is advanced on this one so maybe its just the torque of the belt and motor cycling at low rpm?

CORY -- a good day to you -- from up top the old mountain

don't think that many balance bicycle wheels -- but -- easy to do if needed

this would be the crude way to balance a wheel
wheel must be in free spin mode
give a little spin -- heavy side will end up at bottom
usually this will be where the valve stem is located
on the opposite side add some counter weight to wheel
if it's a rear wheel -- disconnect chain

there are way more precise ways to balance a bicycle wheel if needed

ride that thing with the up and down wobble

had some second thoughts here CORY -- this was added
you are stating a wobble with as little as 5 mph
not to sure that one would feel an unbalanced wheel at that low speed
when you pick up your bike and spin your tire with your hand
do you see any up and down movement ?
if so -- should straighten your wheel

on a bicycle up here on the mountain top
it's more important to have a true -- straight wheel (sideways and up and down)
than to have a balanced wheel

I'd first check the trueness as MM mentioned , but I'd also check that the tire is seated properly, as I've had a similar type issue, and it was that the tire had a high spot from my being impatient in changing the tube, and the tire wasn't seated in the rim proper.
I have considered balancing my wheels but I haven't gotten that far as of yet in my re-build of the "Dirty Rat Bas****", my hot rod whizzer...

Hey thanks guys! Its not a big deal, its just starting out, kinda makes my teeth rattle.:D

that's very true uncle_punk

that up and down uneveness I have found these days
many times is caused by improper setting of tire to rim
in the old days this problem was not that common (better tires) ?

ride that thing

Everything was better. Don't even want to go there, but ya. Absolutely correct statement! Find that out every day in replacement parts and raw materials. Thats why I used an older frame for my Whizzer, and also the same reason I'm using an older XS650 for my chopper, (which by the way I'm totally amped over). Something as simple as a screwdriver if you can get one say 60 years old in allot of cases wont be marred or screwed up. FIND OLD TOOLS AND FIX EM!!!:D
