I may be jumping the gun a bit here but I was wondering if anone has a good suggestion for a trunk or hitch mounted bike rack to hold the weight of one mb with a GEBE 40cc engine.
It has to be able to fit on a 2001 VW Jetta.

Thanks,
SS

I used a cheap 3 bike bumper mount on my 2006 VW Jetta TDI to carry 2 motorized bikes on a 3,600 mile trip this past May. It worked great with no problems. I did put some protective clear plastic on the trunk to minimize scuffing from the padded areas the mount contacted with the trunk and bumper. The rack was from Walmart and worked perfectly.

My only complaint with the rack was that I lost 15mpg in fuel economy and averaged only 33mpg on my entire trip averaging 70mph :-(

Hi shawnshank/everyone.
I perked up when I read you had a VW Jetta. This might mean you have a
1 1/4" receiver due to weight limit restrictions for your car.

I had a bike rack for my camper/truck set up for a 2" receiver. Since, I sold
the camper and Use the truck for work only. So.... I needed my set up to fit
on my Saturn Vue with the 1 1/4" receiver.

Heres what I did, allowing me to open the hatch and converting from 2" to 1 1/4".
I made a trip to tractor supply and bought a 2" receiver and a 1 1/4" hitch.

As per my photos (which I just shot at -17 below HaHa) you could weld the 2 together
to make an adapter so you could use a standard 2" bike rack and use that rack to
flip flop between 1 1/4" or 2" receivers. If not for you, it may help others. graucho :D

I found one

I found one that goes in the reese hitch like you are talking about the bike sets in what looks like 3 or 4 inch channel iron and a piece folds down so it works like a ramp so one man can load. I will have to look for it again. YOu could google motorbike racks for cars , or something like that. It was around 300 but was really neat. Dane
