I'm starting to think about the purchase of a Whizzer to ride around here in the mountains of Colorado (7200' +).

It appears that I might have a choice of:
Panther
Pacemaker II
NE5
NE-R
Ambassador II

Yes I'll be looking to gain a bit more POWER!

In reading the forums it appears that the NE5's and later motor will lend its self to mods. better than the earlier motors used in the Panther and Pacemaker II.

I'm also worried about the overweight and wimpy performance of the Ambassador II, can anything be done with it?

My thoughts are leaning towards the NE5.

Now my question to all you Whizzer experts is which one would you choose and why?

Thanks........

Hi Golddustpeak,
I have a 99 & have the NE upgrades & more done to mine. It runs great!! If I were starting over I'd buy a newer NE5 ( make sure it's an NE5 & not one of the earlier WC1's). There isn't much you have to do to make them bullet proof. I think that an NE5 would give you the most power & reliability. The NE5 would also give you the best retro look.
Good luck,
Jay

Which Whizzer?

Hi Golddust, EVERYONE will have an opinion on this, but let me give you mine here.

Given the choices you mention I would choose NE5, and here is why. On late '04 (early release of 05 model) the NE5 came out. With the introduction of NE5 some rather difficult problems that had been seen on the 99-04 models were superceeded with new designed parts. This engine is much stronger than the earlier model.

This is a true motor bike, and this is the thing that would deter me from Ambassador, as it is in motorcycle class.

NE-r is new drive system, non-traditional, and yet an unknown factor amoung some of us older guys, and to me, sticking with what you know has some merit!

So, IF your bike was to be of the traditional Whizzer type, the NE-5 OR an upgraded wc-1 bike would be the best choices for you.

IF you wanted motorcycle, then Ambassador is the cantidate, if you want to go new-style, the NE-r is available.

Easy deal for me,
Mike

Are you talking new machines, or used?

If you are talking new ones, I have only seen one place that offers those models listed as new ones.

I won't mention any names, but I was warned about one such dealer. I was advised to check with BBB about this particular seller.

I did that, and thankfully so. This seller had about four pages of business practice violations, and had paid and was in the process of paying lots of fines for everything from changing products ordered to something else, and not refunding payments, and just plain not shipping anything at all. He also had lots of motor scooters for sale on his web site, as well as the models of Whizzers you had listed.

I mention this just to give a heads up. If this doesn't apply to you, forget I said anything.

I almost sent this guy a lot of money. Forewarned is forearmed.

Regards August

I have no experience with the Ambassador or NE-R, so I cannot give you any feedback on those models. I have a 2005 NE-5, and my brother has a 2000 WC-1 (with the NE upgrade performed to the engine). I feel these two models give you the flexibility to do a number of modifications that could enhance the performance at your altitude.

I know who you're talking about, and he has been discussed in length on this forum. I don't believe he's a member here...

Between Ebay and Craigslist it is not hard to find a low mileage 2005 and up NE5. That is the route I would go because of all the modification possibilities to enhance performance.

i would like to know about the tire and rim upgrades yer talking about. those double extruded rims. do they keep the tire from coming off the rim when you have flat?

Gold Dust - I have a NE5 with all the mods, I like it and works well for what it is. A four stroke is the best engine to use in high altitude, the two stroke looses most of the power at high Altitude. One thing is how many hill will you have to negotiate? The whizzer is not the best for hills. It could be if you were able to lower the gearing. Mine will clean up 40mph easy, that is not necessary I average 30 If it were more centered to that speed it would accelerate better the rpm would be higher, but would also climb hills. Ford for there cars in the 40's made a higher compression engine called Denver, they were highly sought after for the increase in HP. You could also go for the High Compression Head. The Whizzer is a fun machine especially for time travel, it takes you back to a more simple place. Have fun, Dave

PS: Quinton is coming out with a new four stroke kit, I think everyone is looking forward to his kit. It is supposed to be priced around the Happy Time kits. He is the Whizzer Guru and I think has the fastest known Whizzer (68mph?)
