Howdy all,

I've been wanting to do a motorized bike for years and I just picked up what I think is a good start. A 60's era Schwinn Typhoon. I've got a couple ideas, but think I'll lurk a little and learn a lot. Once I get started I'll post up some more pics.

Here's the donor:

And I really want to run this tank on it (re-painted):

..Name's Brad, thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to MBc Brad! The Schwinn Typhoon would be a great mount for whatever engine you ultimately decide on. That fuel tank looks like it will hold enough fuel to allow you to ride all summer...

...without having to refuel! :D

From where in PA do you hail?

Thanks, I'm looking forward to this project. Almost ordered a engine tonight, but I think I'll read a little more.

I'm from Pottstown, BTW.

I'm originally from Pottstown, and I visit there at least once a month. I've been thinking of bringing the Whizzer up to just ride around town sometime (once the weather gets warmer).

A big Welcome Aboard to a fellow Pa. biker. Love the Schwinn, they are tough bikes and will make a great ride.

hey brad. Thats a nice looking bike. be great with a chinese 2 stroke engine. are you thinking of cleaning up the bike a little?
Might look a bit better.
Hope it all goes well.
and welcome

Thanks,

I'm thinking of an 80cc from Kings and I do plan to clean it up. New seat, tires, polish the chrome, etc. If I'm happy with the results, then I'll strip it down and re-paint it black and paint the tank too. Not sure if I'm keeping the fenders.

Yer would looks sweet. That tank would be sweet. hav u got any idears on mounting it?

I'd like to weld on two pieces of thick walled tubing that would allow me to bolt the front and rear tabs to them. But I don't have a welder, so I may do something with clamps. J & P Cycles (Motorcycles) has a lot of things I think I could adapt.

Almost anything looks better with a Sporty Tank. Take a look at this...
