Has Your Health Improved Since Riding A Motorized Bike?

Skeptics, old fat people and normal bike riders question me about the health aspects of riding an MB instead of a "normal" bicycle.

"You're not gonna get any exercise riding that bike".

Instead of arguing the point, I merely state that this motorized bike is strictly for transportation.

HOWEVER, I've been noticing the positively healthy benefits of riding a pedal ASSISTED bicycle...especially if you put great effort in pedalling.

I pedal and ride about 75 miles weekly. Mostly riding, maybe 80%/20%.

I've been assisting my engine in reaching its optimum rpm range. Using a 1.5" friction roller takes a LOT of effort to get the bike to top speed.

At age 62, my joints are more limber with less aches and pain. My back doesn't hurt while I'm trying to sleep.

Anyone else feeling healthier since riding their MB?

MAJOR difference for me. I ride to live and I live to ride.

I suffer daily from severe & chronic problems in my spine (neck and back and head) along with other health issues, and also I got some knees that are bad from hours of working hard jobs standing up all the time. Despite my supposed age, these problems make me feel very OLD.

When I ride the bicycle, my knees feel much better, and my spine loosens up and allows me to move around better. I get better exercise when riding a motor assisted bicycle because I get the perfect combination of exercise and rest, so I don't get over-exerted. My youth is restored when I ride my bicycle.

Also my mental health is much better as well, as I get out to see the world and experience it out in the open, and there is much less stress compared to driving an automobile.

yes I must say -- my MB helps me to stay just a little more fit
I think that at times though I should start turning my motor off and peddle some
have noticed my sweet little engine causes me to be just a bit lazy

I seem to be at an age where it's hard not to put on weight (58 yrs) 201 lbs up from 190 lbs
my doctor told me to loose 20 lbs the other day -- that will not be happening

yes my MB is at least helping me to almost hold my own regarding -- being in shape
but have noticd that the gym works much better -- if we get there ???

ride the motor bike

Oh I have gotten lot of exercise walking home while i pushed my Powerking up all the hills that motor sucked it broke down more that it ran.

Not at all

My mental health yes. My body, nope. I was in "way" better shape before motor assist.
Plus the time spent here whacking on the keyboard and reading, I used to spend this time more physically. Wow! I didn't realize this place is kill'in me.

my heath has not improved at all

i dont have a car so i would ride my bike every where and no with my bike i hardly even pedal 30 miles like i used to so its fun but every once in a while i go the stone age way and ride a regual old bike

My wife and some co-workers have commented that my arms feel hard.

That's from carrying my 91lb motorized bike, ANND from holding on for dear life when riding the highway.:devilish:

I'm beginning to develop more stamina. I'd have more exercise if "The Dragon Lady" had multi-speeds.

That would be a no for me, but my main transportation was a bicycle "no motor" before. I will say even if you didn't pedal it's still better exercise then driving a car.

Yup, it's still healthier than driving a car. Better for mind and body.

But I'll tell you what I do; I keep a regular old pedal bike on hand and I ride it. In fact, this time of year I only use the MB to go up to the gas station for a coke about once a week or so. I'll use it for everyday transport (when I can get away from the car) when it's 90 deg out.

I don't say it much because I don't want to be a preacher. But as great as these MBs are, everyone should still pedal a bike as much as possible. Nothing will keep you young like riding a bike. I'll be 50 yrs old when my next birthday comes. But I've still got a flat belly and I can work like a horse. And I can sleep at night, too. You folks can't see me, but I promise I'm in better shape than anyone I know who's my age and even better than many, many who are younger.

Pedal a bike!

I use an ebike to commute. Pedaling is not an option. :D If I don't pedal, my batteries die that much quicker. The motor actually gave me more incentive to get out and ride the bike. I make it a point to pedal, knowing I can get some assist when I need it. No more huffing and puffing. Just a quick twist of the throttle and I'm pedaling up to speed. Since the weather has cleared and I've been using the ebike, I've dropped around 5 lbs. Before, I never felt like really riding a bike, dreading the couple of hills I had to climb. The motor changed all that. Can't wait to get out, now.

I have a 2 stroke on order and want to build a bike I can use to ride down to the North Shore to check out the winter surf. It's about an 8 mile ride downhill so that motor is going to come in real handy for the return ride. :D I could use the ebike, but then I'd have to build a small trailer to lug extra batteries. Doable, though.
