Hello-new guy here

Hi guys.
I joined this forum to get some info/feedback on motors. I'm from the Philadelphia Pa area.
I was going to do up my bike with electric, but since decided to go with a gas engine. I don't like the high cost of batteries, nor the weight it involves.

My bike is a 1992 Murray Sabre mountain bike, black with aqua speckles.
18 speed, knobby tires.
I'd like to go with a 48cc 2-stroke, just for powered assistance, and I'm thinking about those kits advertized on gasbike.net.
The grubee Starfire GT-2 looks like what I'm interested in, and the price seems right.

Not everyone is in love with the two stroke engines. But there are plenty of us who like 'em just fine.

So I'd say to go for it. You'll have a fine ride at a good price.

But you should also do as much reading in here as you can stand. That way you'll learn the pros and cons of them. Also the alternatives, such as 4 stroke and friction drive, etc. Then when you decide it'll be more of your own decision, based on some knowledge.

So start reading, build a bike and then tell us all about it. We can't get enough.

Definitely chain drive for me.
As for 4-strokers, they may be ok, but from what I've been reading, I'll lean towards 2 stroke, they seem nice and compact with less shoehorning needed.

Yup, I agree. Though from what I can gather, the four strokes sound like definitely higher quality engines. I don't care a lot about that, though. Maybe I wouldn't put a two stroke in a Cadillac or a Corvette. But for a bike, they're great.
