On the way home from work the other night my engine died on me. It was riding along nice and smooth and all of the sudden it sounded like metal on metal scrapping and then died. I popped the clutch again to see what would happen and it was the same noise. I immediately thought piston and rings. I got home and tore the top off and the piston looks fine. The cylinder walls are clean and smooth as well. I spun the sprocket to move the piston and it moves smoothly. It still will not start and when it tries to turn over all i get is the terrible noise. Does anyone know what is wrong? I would love the help.

Yeah, the motor is not locked up. Only notice the noise when I try to start it. IS this something that I can fix or is my engine shot?

maybe check the carb? some stuff may clog it and restrain the fuel flow...just a guess. try starting it then smell the exhaust for fresh gas. then check for spark. make sure your plugs and black box is ok and check that the plug wire connection is properly into the box. so you always need 3 things for fire, spark, and air. so check those first. next i would check the oil mixture.

Kissman,
Have you taken off your engine's sidecovers....you might have something loose under one of them...?

i took off my side covers and everything looks good. Carb is good. I'm going to split the case and see if anything looks unusual. I'll let you know what I find.
