Tendency to die when idle

Hey all,

Although, for the most part, it works fine, recently my bike's engine has a tendency to die when it's idle. Even after it's been fully warmed up. I can ride along fine for a while, then come across a stop light...let off the throttle, and then yeah.

Very occasionally, it will happen very quickly, almost as soon as I let off, but that's pretty rare. More normal is that I'll sit there for a minute or two and it'll happen around that time.

One more thing...when it does idle, it does sound like it's barely hanging on. Sometimes it'll very nearly cut out but then come back.

Not really sure where the problem might be. Any suggestions for where I should look?

Thanks

Maybe a air leak. Make sure it is not loose from engine. New gasket and o ring. Is you idle screw still in ? Have you adjusted it ? Fuel getting in carb OK ? Gas filter clean ?
My main thought would be a air leak. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

Maybe what's lose from the engine?

Also, how do I raise the idle speed (sorry, not too familiar with these things).

Hey guys

So I got it fixed, runs great now.

There is a little screw with a spring on the carb. If you look down, using the front of the bike as a reference, it's on the left side. Tweaking this is what fixed it.

But, can anyone tell me what it does exactly?

Idle screw-Changes amount of air being mixed with fuel.
Among the pages here you will find a so much information.
Search "Boost Bottle". The posts explain a lot. The search box leads to all info.
Glad you got it fixed. Enjoy.

Well, you fixed it and found the idle screw......:D

It's a very simple carb
there is only one screw which adjusts the idle and NO mixture screw
unlike more tuneable carbs

All the idle screw does is raise (or lower) the slide in the
carb throat by riding on a little ramp on the side of the slide

If you take the air cleaner off and look into the back of the
throat you will see how it works

The only other adjustment you can make on this carb is moving
the position of the clip on the needle which will make it richer or leaner

That is accessed by unscrewing the top of the carb where the throttle
cable enters

So which engine do you have?
He already told you........
Hey all,

rather new motorbiker here. Been reading these forums a lot and collecting safety/maintenance tips and such, so I thought I'd register. I usually ride my bike (Cruiser with HT) up to BYU campus and back again, and plan to continue as much as possible until the daily temperature drops below 32.

Anyone else here in Provo?

Cheers
Are you asking if it is a 66cc or a 50cc or the manufacturer?
They all have pretty much the same carb......
