Exhaust Bending the exhaust pipe.

i just heated mine with an oxy n bent it a lil bit. Regarding the sand in the pipe yes they makes it so it doesnt crumble but when ur only bending it a couple of mm then it doesnt really matter. I only really need sand in it when bending over like 20 degrees.

People who want to bend their exhaust:
1.Place a large piece of wood in vice and screw the exhaust(via 2 existing holes) to a flat part of the wood.
2.Heat selected area to be bent with Bernz0matic until it's RED hot...CONTINUE to heat while bending.

ONLY bend a little at a time and test for correct clearance....this may take 2 or 3 or even 4 tries to get right but better to little bend than to much.
DON'T apply to much force,go easy.

Fetor, my Bernzomatic is a Mapgas one with the yellow tank. Is it hotter than your blue propane one? I was hoping I could braze V-brake bosses onto seat stays with the Mapgas.

I heard that when bending metal pipe. it is a good idea to put sand in it to make up for the empty space to prevent the pipe from collapsing or folding.

I'll have to test this on some electrical conduit. I figured I would need a pipe bender to keep the kinks away... we'll see. Thanks!

i just tried a butane torch and it got no where near hot enough to bend the exhaust. i was standing there for a good 20 mins just heating and it still wouldn't budge.

the picture below is the exhaust i'm using. ( or wish to use) it's pipe is thicker walled than the stock chinese exhaust :/ which is why i think it didn't work

John...that thread i started 9 mths ago used a Burnzomatic with Propane gas......since then i've updated to MAP/MAPP(MAPP is better than MAP if u can get it) gas which burns MUCH hotter.
Propane will still do the exhaust job but it's not as versatile cos it can't achieve the temperatures necessary to braze.
I see no reason why u can't braze V-brake bosses.Don't do it out in the open with windy conditions cos heat concentration is important....test on scrap & let us know if it worked.
Also check-out Burnzomatic brazing rods with their own flux(same as soulder)

BTW....havn't seen u around for awhile.Thought the Chinese finally kidnapped u & made u do unspeakable things(work in a HT factory assembling inferior kits).....THE HORROR,THE HORROR.

Fetor, mine is the Bernzomatic Mapp gas torch from Bunnings as per attached picture. I got some different typses of brazing rods with flux to practice with but not from Bunnings.
I've been nursing a terrible shoulder injury from doing too many junk mail runs and I blame the Chinese for that because most of the stuff in junk mail is made in China. They really have it in for me and I suspect they are behind this push from the RTA to relegate us all to using only private roads. I've been focussing on how best we might put a case forward to stimey this imminent legislation:

I think we may have to give up on it but I wish we could all descend upon Canberra on our bikes in leather jackets with "Hardly Davidson - The Mild Bunch" emblazoned upon our backs and pour red paint over the building facade or shake them up some other way.
I fear the battle is lost before it even began and I'm a tad depressed because I so much enjoyed building these bikes and am too old to reinvent myself again. Any suggestions welcome. I'll call you soon for a natter.
P.S. One snort of neat Mapp gas renders you comatose and 2 snorts brings about immediate death. This fact might be useful in the forthcoming battle with the RTA.
