I am looking at the Brooks B33 ($150ish) and the knock offs of it that range from $20-$30. Somewhere here I caught a reference to the knock off version having a BAD SMELL (??) ....guessing the low bid got the work from the chinese leather tanner.

Any comments on the original Brooks versus the knock offs??

Comfort?
Workmanship?
durability?
Appearance?

Where is the knockoff sold? I can live with the bad smell considering it can't be worse than the small of 2 stroke exhaust smell.

seen those knock offs

seen boxes and boxes of those knock off Brooks seats
a motor bike dealer here in San Diego has plenty of them for sale
as he opened large box full
I didn't notice stinky smell -- just kind of new leather smell
he was really wanting to sell those seat THINGS -- MADE IN CHINA

I admit I almost bought one
maybe should have just grabbed it for possible use later

but -- I have learned -- sometimes the hard way
it may be best to buy the orig ?? cost a lot more - yes - but - it's the real THING

I have seen Brooks seats in good shape after 30 or 40 years
I won't be here on Earth that long
just thinking that for a young rider -- that's almost a lifetime seat ride !!!

Speaking from experience, spend the extra money on the original brooks! The knock offs are very poorly made, and VERY uncomfortable. The cheapies have a very low spring rate so that the saddle sags very badly (I only weigh 125, so that should tell you something), the leather stretches horribly, and I could only use that saddle for about 15 minute rides before being so sore in the backside and lower back that I had to stop and rest; I ended up throwing it in the trash. Never had a problem with the high dollar unit and once it breaks in and forms to your contours, it's one of the most comfortable you'll ever ride... Just my experience, hope this helps...

glad that I did not buy one -- the true story told !!!
