Friction drive mods

Yep, screaming!:devilish:

I have a spare if one fails.

Must finish adaptors. Too proud to have machinist put the screws to me.

Maybe I'll inquire tomorrow how much they'll charge me.

wilbur, maybe a knurled roller from Staton or BMP will fit.

How hard would it be to put one of those motors as a replacement to my Tecumseh ?.

Wilbur, I'm running the Harbor Freight engine you spoke of on a friction kit from bikmotorparts.com. The engine never had fuel in it until I mounted it on my bike about 4 or 5 weeks ago. So far I'm happy with it. I weigh in at a little over 200 and if I have my computer calibrated, Im getting a consistant 27 mph out of it with a 1.25" roller on a 26" wheel, on a flat. And I can also get going and up to speed from a stand still with no peddles and the engne doesn't seem to be straining it's guts out. I have a 1" roller but have not tried it yet. It does require peddle assist on steep inclines though, but still beats the heck out of 100% peddle power. Also, do you know about the 20% off coupons at Harbor freight ? If not, let me know and I'll send you the site address. It's good for 20% off any single purchase weather it's on sale or regular price. I paid about $165.00 for my auger almost 2 years ago !

Wilbur, I'm not familiar with the drive kit you're using, but I spent less than an hour building my complete kit. I had the engine removed from the auger before I got the kit though. That job in it's self took probably close to an hour. If you're pretty well mechanicaly inclined and have everything ready to go, it shouldn't take more than 45 minutes to an hour and a half. I could probably do another like mine in about 30 minutes now since I'm familiar with it. It's a very simle easy task.

Wow!!.Thats pretty fast.I would like the site address, as I shop there alot. They do have the Auger on sale for 189.00 right now.

Wilbur, this might be yor lucky day. I was at Harbor freight within the past hour. They have a gasoline powered water pump for $130.00. I had one of my buddies that works there to open the box and let me look at it. I'm pretty sure it's the very same motor as the one on the auger, just a different color. Blue instead of red. The specs say it's 52cc with 1.5 HP. Who knows. I read somewhere that he auger engine is actually 52cc and 2.2 HP. Again, who knows ! Anyway, it would be quite a bit cheaper for the pump rather than the auger. And as someone told me, you might be able to sell the pump assembly on eBay or where ever. There are a few places that sell the same engine as the ones from Harbor Freight. The cheapest I've seen them is like $120.00 and they're all sold out of them. Get my drift ? If you want one, Harbor Freight has them. I'll send you the site address for the 20% coupons. I checked them earlier but they did not have one currently. You have to check often. One may show up later today, tomorrow, next week, who knows ! Hope this helps. Oh, here's the link to the pump.

The original manufacturer did just that.

BTW, if you are going to upgrade engines, go with what Kerf suggested.
