I'm getting near buying the rack mount Titan but I can't see how I can use my Grip Shift on the throttle side, there just isn't enough room. I'm not sure I could use the shifter even if there was enough room. Do I need a thumb shifter or a different throttle assembly or what?

The grip shifters can be pried apart and the index clicker can be removed or altered for a gentle cruise control.
If you don't have enough space on your handlebar you either need to lose some accessories, get longer handlebars or trim down the rubber grip.
It's definitely easy to do and works great.

Yeah, I'm thinking it's got to be something like that or the old 10 speed down tube style shifter, if I can still find one.

I want to still have full functionality of the bike after the engine is mounted.

I use Staton half trigger throttles on my favorite bikes. They work great and take up very little space the only catch is you can really only use 2 or 3 fingers on them at best and that starts to wear out your hand on long rides. On a positive note if you get a rubber band around your handlebar and over the trigger throttle you can set yourself a simple cruise control for long tame stretches of road. You can set the throttle wherever you want and the rubber band basically just counteracts the recoil on the carb. I generally set mine to around half to three-quarter throttle and rest my hands on the hill climbing handles and just pedal along with the engine. All it takes is a quick flick and the throttles at idle again and if done right should not pose too much of a safety hazard.

I scored a bike with thumb shifters for free last night. A couple of hours of taking every little piece out of the shifter and cleaning and lubricating them later, the shifter didn't work at all before I started, all seems to be well and there should be room on the handlebars for everything now. I definitely like my old Grip Shifter better but there's just no way I can use it even with a lever throttle.

I'm using friction drive kit from bikemotorparts.com. I had twist grip shifters on my 18 speed bike. Never liked them from day one. I removed them and went to rapid fire shifters along with standard size/length grips on the handle bar. I'm also using trigger throttle that came with my kit. If you consider rapid fire shifters, do your home work. Some of them take up quite a bit of space on the handle bar and some don't. Mine also have integrated brake levers. Mine are Shimano brand and I think I paid like $35.00 for them at a local bike shop.

I love my grip shifters. There's no way to use them with a twist throttle that I can see though.

You may be right on that account. I have the trigger throttle, so I can't really say. I know there are a few different configurations of rapid fire shifters. If you're inerested in them you might have to do a trial and error fit. My trigger throttle to me is backwards. I opperate it with my thumb. That's the only way I can mount it because of space on the bars. My jet ski has trigger throttle also but it's opperated by my index finger. That's what I'm really used to.
I like the rapid fire shifters because they allow me to keep a firm grip on the handle bars and use only my thumb and index finger. No moving of the hand ! do whatever is comfortable to you. If it's not, then it could cause you to have an accident
