Can a 50cc four stroke engine like this be mounted on a friction drive?

Or is it too big and heavy?

I have a honda 50cc on a staton friction drive and don't notice any difference in handling over the honda 35.
The honda 50 puts out lots of torque.
To me it seems like twice the power of the honda 35.
It is a sweet setup. I even pull an 80 lb trailer up hills.
PS I weigh 200 lbs.

That is what I thought of doing originally but the engine in way out there with that set up.
Never mind the 80 dollar clutch, cluth bell, shaft or roller.
In the future maybe.

I have a Honda 50 with a staton friction on a tandem. Lots of torque. It will pull from a dead stop and top out at 30mph. However, I am to impatient, I usually pedal to accelerate faster. (I weight 225 and my passenger son weighs 170) Lots of fun!!

I as well have a DAX 50cc as a friction drive setup... incredible amount of power and torque!

I really do not feel any leaning with the weight to the side, but with that said, I am usually careful making nice gradual turns!

you'll need to research it for yourself 'cuz i remember only vague details from their visit, but so far as friction drives go i was quite impressed with Dimension Edges' ability to adapt/adjust to engine weight and maintain an optimal roller pressure...DE is nice guys, too :)

and let's deal with that rack-mount "COG" thing...if you weigh more than 150 you'll never notice an engine behind you when you're rolling, and if the bicycle fits you safely when standing it won't be a problem then either.

but you better use a good stand...check out the "greenfield stabilizer"...it's perfect for rear-mounted drive-trains.

imo.

That's the exact setup I've been looking at Ray. Please, how do you like it compared to your Atlas/4s setup? Would or have you done a FD w/ a 4s?

Yes I did do a FD with a four stroke. It was a R/S 35cc on a Staton Kit. I sold it for project funds. It worked really well slipped a little when real wet. I
could baby it along in bad weather. 22- 25 mph with a lightweight bike and myself at 155lbs.
The kit I have know I call my fair weather bike. It is difficult in the rain, I think it is do to the pivot point on the mounting. I drilled new holes toward the center of the back of the mounting plate. The original one made the motor sits way up and I'm to lazy to make different length bracket. The 2 stroke motor is strong and pulls me along at 32mph, fast enough for me.
The Atlas frame mount HS 4 stroke is the one I ride. My favorite right now. If your looking for simplicity the FD kit can be put together in an afternoon or much less. If you do go with it a excellant add on is the 96ounce tank from Staton well worth the price for more riding instead of refueling.
