I struck gold!!! My new Whizzer build... (pics inside)

A couple of days ago I bought a used whizzer. From the best of what I can gather its a 99 model although I would greatly appreciate if someone could confirm or disprove this for me.

here is the story... I was planning to build a poor mans whizzer with the new harbor freight 2.5 hp motor I bought on sale a couple of days ago.... but my plans changed.

After some searching for a suitable bike, I found an old, stripped whizzer frame on craigslist that I was gonna try to use as a base for my project. On my way to look at the frame, the lady calls back to tell me she thinks its been modified (an answer to a question I asked earlier on the phone). I almost turned around in disappointment but I felt this urge to check it out regardless, partly because I was halfway there anyways.

When I got there, I found the front of an old blue whizzer frame un-harmoniously joined together with the rear of a Schwinn chopper. I respectfully declined so she said she had a partially assembled whizzer in the back. I asked if she wanted to sell it so we went in her back yard to check it out. I crawled though this heap of a small backyard and laying under a mountain of old blankets with a couple other bikes was a little piece of treasure. After some negotiating a little, here is what I found....

With close inspection and some research the next day I found there was "a few" parts missing and a "little" work to do... to say the least. But... I only paid $250 for the bike, so there is still some budget left for goodies.

I cleaned the bike up and put new tubes in the tires for the pictures... but this is the bike as it was before I pulled the motor out and mailed it to Quenton for a "massage". I will be adding in the missing pieces as the $$$ comes in to support them and will be sure to post some pics of my projects for those who are interested.

Any comments welcome... hope you enjoy.

Hi Kilroy & give me vtec,

The hi-flow insert is extinct! No longer availble!

I need to look in my stock room as I think I may still have one of the original "Tom Hand" proto-types [Whizzer copied the basic design for their Hi Flow insert], however it was chrome and cost approx $50.00 to make [you know American labor & welding].

Have fun,

I don't think it is a 1999 model. It already has an NE5 engine as well as the NE5 style speedometer. Looks to be a 2005 or newer. This is a real good thing! The date of mfg should be on the VIN plate on the left side of steering tube. Great find! The motor itself is worth more than what you paid for the whole bike!
Enjoy.

Jim

The Whizzer is a collection of different year models. The Speedometer is from the 2001 to 2004 era. The NE5 had a "white face" speedometer instead of the black face. The front brake [possibly the entire front wheel] is from the 1999 model, because all the NE models had the brake arm attached directly to the fork tube, whereas the 1999 model use an extra brace to affix. The chain guard is from an NE5. Not sure about the fork cover plate as it looks like it is slotted. The rear brake is from the 1999 to 2004, but could have been installed if the bike had a the slip clutch when new.

Looks more NE than not.
Have fun,

Have fun,

that's excellent... in my mind that makes the bike even better.

thanks Quenton.... you definitely know your way around a whizzer.

Have fun,

Once again I stand corrected by our resident expert. Thanks Quenton

I dont like the whizzer tanks.. too big and bulky. Not to mention I like the outline of the bike by itself.

So here is what I came up with to disguise the tank to help make it seem more like a bicycle than a motorcycle. I basically just got a random bike bag from wally-world and cut a hole in exactly the spot where the neck comes out. I used a lighter to burn the edges so the fabric wouldn't run and ... voila!!!!

I know the duct tape is ugly... I put it there when I ran the hoses through so the fabric wouldn't tear. I will remove it later.
