i was looking into getting a pk80j from zoom bicycles before the holidays because of the input from reading these forums and there low price.but i waited after christmas and they were all sold out.i have called about a week ago and have not received a call back about if they were going to receive anymore motors to sell due to the change in the EPA standards. does anybody know what is going on with this?

No one knows for sure if, or how long the Chinese made "Happy Time" engines will still be imported. There are several problems with these engines, the big one is as of yet I haven't heard of the makers/importers trying to get them approved. The EPA only tests engines that are submitted for approval. I think a well set up and broken in HT could pass the tests for off road use, but they must be submitted. Time will tell.

In the meantime there are several Japanese made 2 strokes that are already EPA tested and approved. They are more expensive because they are quality built. The Tanaka, Mitsubishi and, Zenoah(sp?) are some 2 strokes that have been approved. The Subaru Robin 2 stroke may also be approved, but I'm not sure about it. There are also others, I'm sure.

The alternatives are the 4 stroke engines that have been EPA approved.

I may be wrong here, but I don't believe there is a Robin Subaru 2 stroke. I think they only make 4 strokes. I did google in an attempt to find a 2 stroke and came up empty.

staton-inc.com shows a Robin Subaru EC04-0209, 40cc 2 stroke, 2 horse power. It has a long shaft and no clutch, so may not be suitable for MBs.

Wow - powerkingshop on eBay has NO bicycle engine NOTHING anymore. Just grow lights and what not for people growing pot. So much for a Canadian connection.

There are still other choices out there. Better git 'em while you still can I suppose.

Hows that hope and change working for y'all?
