New Gebe setup needed...

Hello All,

I am thinking of buying my very first GEBE setup for a cruiser I have, so here is my question for other GEBE users about the engine choice...

First let me say I weigh in at 205 pounds, and I am looking more for a good power range, rather then a higher top speed.

I will be perfectly happily capping out top speed wise in the low 20mph range.

There are some long uphill grades near me, but no sizeable mountains or such to climb.

I would like to see a startoff with a few pedals and then the engine take over from there, and know I have the power I need to cruise around.

Also holding some value is... I would like to have a nice sleek, smaller sized setup if possible. I have a Titan 50cc on hand right now, but would like a smaller engine as that thing is a beast on a bicycle rear as my friction drive right now.

Anyone have insight based on their setup and the engine also being sold by Gebe with their setup???

205lbs @ 20mph, that's easy

here's my take...

you'll get by fine with the 2-stroke Tanaka PF3300 or the 4-stroke Robin Subaru EHO35...they'll both pull a 13T and give you 28-30mph, the PF33 even pulls a 14T to 33mph with lighter riders...but all you want is 20mph, so you can use the low 12T drivegear, and take those long grades all day without a hiccup from either one of those engines...and 20-25mph would be about 75% throttle on a level run. so long as you're willing to pedal-assist take-offs, your belts outta last near forever with that arrangement...we 4 GEBE-riders here in OP average over 3,500 miles per belt.

both engines are top-notch, known for quality and durability...the tanaka sounds like a serious leafblower, rippin' but not rude...the robin-subaru you can't hardly hear at all.

either kit ships at 20lbs or less i believe...if "sleek" is what you want, you're headed in the right direction alright

Being nice and quiet is also part of the sleek and appealing look...

My first choice is the EHO35, and I was wondering how quiet it really is... have you personally heard it in person???

There are no MB laws luckily here in my state, so engine noise is not an issue, but I do so like the appeal of a very quiet engine!

i've been directly involved in about a dozen different GEBE builds, ridden many other peeps builds, too...and have directly experienced almost every kind of engine the Golden Eagle mount will accept...the EHO35 is nothing BUT quiet, for real.

Just curious here, has anyone or yourself ever used a Titan 50cc ( AKA Honda GX50 ) with a GEBE setup, or is it way too heavy???

I have

A Gebe With Tanaka 32cc
It's been a Awesome rig.
The Engine is top Quality, Starts all the time real easy.
Plenty of power.. And with a 2 stroke you always have clean oil going through your engine !!!!

I have not seen a robin engine... But from what I have read about them I would not mind having one ...

1 important thing to remember is that you need a good rear wheel with the GEBE, If you dont get one now you will have maybe 6 months before the cheap stock wheel self destructs !!!!

I bought a GEBE 105G rear wheel... It's rock solid.. no more problems...
There are also other sources for good wheels like the Wheelmaster..
The GEBE is smooth and trouble free, And it's a blast...
I dont know if the honda 50 or titan will work with the gebe, you could call gebe and they can tell you. I think the robin or tanaka would be a better choice, To keep the rig small.

Just had the Titan on hand here in my shop and was curious before I spent more $$$ on another engine!

sorry about that, i do know those bikes personally, but not all of them are my work, wavy built his own, so did don, but we all had a small hand in each one somewhere along the line...a lot of what happened up here was a group thing...and the tadpole was from out of town...i did get to help jerry fab a nice headrest and gastank bracket while he was here tho.

i have some Titan experience too, an early complete system...i never was inclined to try it on the GEBE...it will bolt up to the clutch and drive the system, without much change in the weight distribution you're already used to. i think i'd fabricate a simple strut for under the engine if i was gonna put a 50cc 4-stroke on a GEBE...in other words, you'd be be on your own if it did fail because you didn't properly bolster the system.

Den or Juls at GEBE will tell you the system is what they claim and nothing more..."assist" kits...and aren't designed or intended for anything larger than the 40cc they sell. you'll go thru belts with 50cc without a LOT of pedaling-up.

since you have it on hand already...it's not like it would instantly snap the strap, you'd be able to tell if it'll work out.

if you decide to try GEBE, you can get the kit (76mm clutch) without an engine. once you own that much, your engine options are wide open...

I have the complete Titan rig, being the Titan engine and the BMP friction kit it is attached to!

I just paid for my shiny new EHO35 which is being shipped to me next week....

Love the Titan, just wanted a sleeker look while riding the cruiser, and to always have an extra engine on hand as well!
