I see alot about top speeds here. I was wondering if acceleration was ever factored in. After all, all the fun in top speed is gettin there..

My two HT motored bikes are pretty quick off the draw, but with the hybrid I can actually feel the bike lift up a bit when I kick in the front 'lectric motor.

both HTs have the hybrid in top speed hands down though.

Both acceleration and top speed are too dependent on rider weight to be easily compared. I weigh 50kg, (110lbs), and could probably beat most people off the mark, with the original setup.
My bike has a shift-kit and high-compression head now, so I can't compare it to standard setups. Leaves them for dead.

Most people only have 1 gear.... so you either have good top speed, good acceleration, or a mix between the two. My push trailer hit 50mph, I could have geared it for acceleration, but then it would top out too quickly.

Steve, it would be a close race, I only weigh 56kg, I'm one of those people that don't gain weight no matter what :devilish: I do only have a single speed though...

Being light is the ultimate advantage on a single speed, I can go almost as fast as I go on the flat up a hill

well, it would be fun to drag race 2 mb's together, but a 1/4 mile would seem VERY long only getting up to +- 30 mph (providing you are both on one speed bikes)
My friend and i have access to an 1/8 mile drag strip and we plan on drag racing our bikes this summer. an 1/8 mile will still be long but it will be fun. I weigh 155 lbs and I'm runnning a 50 c.c. 2 stroke on a 20" schwinn with 20" wheels, wxpansion chamber, high flow air filter and a 41 tooth sprocket. he weighs about 200 lbs and is running an 80c.c. 2 stroke on a 24" schwinn with 20" wheels, a 44 tooth sprocket, stock exhaust and stock air cleaner. on the road he can beat me off the line, but i can catch up to him and pass him with no problem. we haven't measured off any certain distance, we just run them a couple hundred feet or so.
his 80 c.c. has more torque and with the 44 tooth sprocket he has more bottom end than me. Since i have a 41 tooth sprocket, i have a tiny bit more top end as far as gearing goes, but my expansion chamber really adds to the top speed once it comes on the pipe. racing on a real 1/8 mile with timing lights and a christmas tree will be more fun than messing around on the street. i think the spectators will get a kick out of seeing 2 bikes run down the track at a blistering 30 mph after watching the cars run down the track at 100+ mph.
