Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knows anything about making the motor etc quieter and cooler. I dont know much on the subject but my friend who made my bike drilled another 3 holes into the bottom of my baffle (i think thats the right word) and sawed the long thread rod looking thing off it as this apparently makes it go faster. Would this increase the noise also?.

I basically need a way to reduce noise and heat.

thanks, Luke

You'll get more power and noise from the holes, I don't know if that will effect the heat. Check out posts on rich/lean carb settings and spark plugs they will address heat. If you pack the muffler with "chore boys" steel wool kind of stuff made from copper/brass that will cut down the noise and didn't hurt my power. If you can explain "heat" better you will get better answers. Is it engine or exhaust heat? Are you burning your leg on the muffler or getting hot from warm air?
(you can get chore boys in the cleaning section of any big super market)

Basically i want to cool the actual engine and im not really burning my self at all.

You can get the engine to run cooler by using a "richer" fuel air mix from the carb and a cooler spark plug but you can over due it and harm your engine. Check out posts on reading a spark plug that will give you a starting point for making changes.

packing the stock muffler with anything will reduce power. those mufflers are junk, and they do not flow very well as they are. pack more stuff in there and you are just reducing the exhaust flow.
the key to more power is more air and fuel in, more exhaust out...the faster you can get both in and out, the more power your motor will make. but you still have to keep the air /fuel mixture right. a leaner running motor will also make more power, but it won't last very long.
the downside, is it WILL be louder than stock if you want it to make more power.
holes in the stock muffler will make a tiny bit more power, but not enough to even notice any difference.

Im not overly bothered about power as it will most likely hit 50kmph atleast either way. I would prefer it to be quieter and cooler to stealth ride.

If you think it'll go 50 kph....goood luck with that.
you'll be lucky if it goes 40 kph max, and a plugged up exhaust will reduce the speed further from there.

I've taken the baffles and pretend cat converter out of the muffler and put in chore boys. It breaths out much better and is about the same sound level as stock with a lot more power. The stuffing absorbs vibration (sound) but is very free flowing. The same idea as a glass packed header on a car but cheaper. The back pressure is reduced but still enough that I'm not having a problem. Also throw away the stock air filter and using a K&N clone for a pocket bike. I was unclear in the other post about packing the muffler.

well, 50 kph is 31.07 mph, so yes you are right and i was wrong.
30 mph is no problem....sorry about that.
