My name is Justin D. Fender, I'm 33 years old and live in Roanoke Rapids, NC. Been riding bikes as long as I can remember, motorcycles too. I guess they would just inevitably meet.

Basically I enjoy anything with wheels and a motor, and this year Summer fever got me and I sold an adult tricycle and an electric chopper to fund a motorized bike project. I bought an eBay kit from LEB (68.5cc), just looking to get on the road cheap, the only problem was I didn't have a bike yet, my regular bikes will keep their pedal duty.

A friend in NJ from a 4x4 forum I've been on for over 10 years told me he had a bike for me, so on his way to 4 wheeling here in NC he delivered the parts. I now have a 1950 Columbia frame and a set of wheels. The front wheel is a later alloy wheel, the rear is an old Bendix hub laced into an aluminum rim with a motor drive sprocket already mounted on the oposing side.

Thus begins my project to stand out from the DUI scooters all over the road around here. My barriers right now are finding a cheap bottom bracket/crankset for the bike as well as a pair of forks, while I have already aquired most of the other parts. I have a "rat rod" theme in my mind, but will see as it comes together. Not digging the top bar motorcycle style tank that came with my kit I am brainstorming right now to get around that, but keep it cheap.

Now, you can welcome me.

Welcome to the forum!
Check out Pirate cycles for some cool forks (IMHO).
Cranks are pretty easy to find at your LBS (Local Bike Shop).
If your really lucky they might have everything you need used. Used does not always mean ratty looking.

Welcome!

You're not the only one...this is my solution and it's very functional. Maybe you could find one used or cheap on eBay...

Used does not always mean ratty looking.

Don't worry, I know this, I've been scrounging for all my parts, I was raised a dumpster diver.

As for the style of this bike, I said "rat rod" but really it's going to be a hodge podge, rat rod, old school, new school, bmx, cruiser, etc...

The wheels are painted and I have Nirve tires mounted, got all my other drive parts, just waiting on the bike shop to find my fork.

Went to my shop the other day and got one of my spare compressor tanks, it's about 5" diameter and 2 foot long, I plan on cutting out the center section and welding it back together about 10" long and mounting it behind the seat.

You could always do a comparison between them. I am interested in a larger tank myself, and am contemplating modifying an old propane bottle, which would be nearly the same size as what you are planning on creating.
I really do not know if it would hold any more or less fuel, and I don't have an empty bottle yet, but it is close.
Either way, like yourself, I like the idea of relocating the fuel tank off of the frame top tube.

Tank on rack...

Or you could simply mount that peanut tank on a rack...
