I seem to be adding oil every 100 miles or so not much maybe 10mls or so is this normal for the 4 stroke engines

can't speak for the Robin (I don't have one),,,
but, my HS 142F (6000+ miles) does not seem to use (ie: burn/lose) any oil

I have yet to install mine, but the manual says that the engine will consume more oil if multigrade is used. I plan to stick with good quality single grade oil. Hope this helps!

I use valvoline 30w. Never have to add more. I change it every 500 miles or so and its always full.

My nephew never changes his oil.. I have to. I have only done it a couple of times and he rides it all the time... it doesn't burn oil either.

I broke them all in myself. I have a strict regimen I follow on all my new engines... then I change the oil to get all the metal contaminants out. Seems to work well for me.

It says it will use more oil if the ambient temp is high.

Single weight oils have a narrow temperature range, it is best to use a multi grade if your ambient temp varies 30 degrees during the day or operating period.
Here in New England our temps can easily swing a 50 degree range during any week.I recommend 10-40 high detergent.
The oil recommendation chart is on page 6 of your manual.

yes, temperatures are a key issue when determining what weight to use. Bob is right, consult your manual.

After break in with my Robins I have used nothing but 10w40 Castrol Syntec. I use a measure to meter out exactly 80 cubic centimeters (80 mililiters) and change the oil at 300 miles. Subaru calls for 100cc, but I found that anything over about 85cc just ends up in the air filter or dripping from it. This is my 3rd RS 35 and none have ever used oil unless overfilled. A careful break in period is critical with any of these small engines, 2 or 4 stroke. During break in I use standard 10w40 oil and limit speed to about 1/2 throttle for 5 tanks of gas. I also do not run at a constant speed for long during break in.

Make sure you are using recommended oil as per your owner's manual. Change the oil as recommended, too.
Here in Fl., I would use a good quality #30 or # 10W40. Synthetic oil , if you want to. I like syn in 2 strokes .
