I'm new to assembling bikes and I notice that when I hold onto the seat and lift the rear tire off the ground, and I spin the tire hard by pedaling... there is an extreme amount of up and down shaking or vibration of the rear wheel.

Basically you can feel and see the rear of the bike shaking up and down.

So I'm wondering now how normal this is or if the wheel may be bent?

I completely wasn't thinking and put slight weight on the bike while adjusting the seat without yet inflating the tires. Really stupid I know!

I searched online a bit and some said that ANY bike on a stand is going to shake "like crazy" when pedaled hard? I'd hate to have to take it in and spend money on repair or a new wheel.

How significant is this in your opinion? It isn't noticeable while riding, so I'm not sure what to do. I'm worried it may come back to bite me later on, and like to take care of it if necessary before I mount the engine.

Thanks in advance!

Issues

Hi, Is the tire bead (Rubber) evenly around the rim., When holding up does tire itself move out of round (don't trust white wall), or is the rim or both. maby sprocket is not evenly centered on tire hub. If riding it's not noticeable give her the gusto but keep an eye on it.

Like he said. :D Make sure the tire is properly seated on the rim (bead is even all the way around). Other than that, some of the cheaper tires aren't molded perfectly round. I have the same thing on some of my bikes. If it isn't bothersome when riding, I just ignore it.

Thanks for the replies/tips :D... I'll take a look to see if the bead is seated evenly and hopefully it won't be a problem when riding. It may just be a cheap tire like you said ibdennyak.

Lazieboy is just giving you some additional safety tips...wearing a helmet is a good thing and the fender mounting tabs like to break off on cruiser fenders. That usually causes the front wheel to lock up, which is a good reason to wear a helmet.

I gotcha...I definitely plan on wearing a helmet.

Try match marking the tire with a magic marker, and rotating it 180 degrees compared to the valve stem. See if it still is unweighted as badly (also, if you use a reflector, put it at odds to the valve stem or remove it. Reflectors weigh quite a bit sometimes.

put the wheel with no tire in a stand or dropout and see if it is out of round.

If not, I wouldn't worry about it unless you feel it while riding.
