Hi All,

I think the key to a good reliable build starts with a good, reliable donor bike.

What is your thoughts on a good, better and best choice in general for a MB donor bike build and why?

Im looking for a plug and play type build, (if there is such a thing).

My thoughts off the cuff:

Good - Mongoose w/cailpers why - rugged?s, with front and rear brakes

Better - Trek w/discs why - rugged for sure, better quality
(Model# 4500)

Best - Worksman w/ fr disc why - simply the best

I do hope this will help other MBers as well.

Thanks guys. :)

I have read 2 posts recently where the newest Worksman frames have issues with the chain stays being crooked. Double check them for proper alignment to the center line of the frame and symetrical bends as compared left to right before you start fitting an engine to the frame. This way you can still do a warranty exchange if necessary as the bike will still be in an as received condition.

mongoose is not the mongoose of old.
Back in the late 70's - early 80's. mongoose was one of the top bmx biles to have.
the name mongoose has been sold to pacific cycles, and mongoose bikes now are glorified huffy's.
huffy was always the bottom of the barrel in my opinion.

JMO, the best choice would be a used bicycle found on craigslist. You can buy EXCELLENT high-quality bicycles at great discounts.

I'd choose a bike with dual disc brakes.

There are tons of poor quality bikes out there. Some good ones can be found new or used. Any bike with a well made frame can be brought up to a standard that will work with an engine by replacing wheels, brakes, and bearings with high quality equipment. No poor quality frame is safe to motorize. As to disc brakes, good quality brakes are a must, but I have had very scary experiences with poor quality disc brakes. A rear disc may not work with all motorizing kits (GEBE).
