The cops around here are getting annoyingly interested in gas powered bikes.
I've been seeing alot of those cheap hub motored electro bikes that are popular with delivery riders.
As with all things bicycle, things break and this one rider bought his stretched delivery frame bike into the shop for a few repairs, his regular drive system was a mess (shark toothed chain rings, the chain was shot, rear derailleur tab was bent and the rear gear cluster was worn out, cables stretched and it was filthy)
We got him up and running in short order but this was the first time I'd had a hub motor bike on my stand and i gave it a good inspection.
350w rear hub 36v lith ion batteries,crappy looking controls....Hmmmm
After replacing his worn out drive components(and an over night recharge) I took the bike out for a shake down spin and was unimpressed with its performance, but it was QUIET! exactly what the doctor ordered for my little police problem.
This got me thinking, I'm sure some were some one has built it better, so i got on the net and started searching and came across a page touting a 50 mph high powered electric bicycle.
Here is the kicker, the guy is selling the plans as a book for about $50 dollars.
My question is is this guy for real?
Has anyone had any experience with this bike or its plans? or is it just another internet scam?
heres the link>

Any light anyone can shed on this will be appreciated.

just go to MBc's electric section and learn what you need for free.

btw, i wonder how your cops would feel about a 50mph motor-assisted-bicycle? if you need to go that fast please just get a motorcycle...let's keep it real, my friend, so we can all keep riding

I have the same feelings about motor assisted bikes,if you want to go fast just by a real motorcycle that can handle those speeds. All the money spent on souping up your motorized bike to make it go faster than 35mph is better spent on real motorcycle's .

@phantom i saw that page before, that bike is nice but plan out spending almost 2K to make it like his.

Just a thought.
Look for FREE in this sites electric bike section for posts by aussie jester , thud, and recompense.
Or look http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=28 for the same people plus the fastest electric bicycle by liveforphysics.
also for free.
Recompense offers group buys of very expensive astaro motors for like 1/4 the list price,as well as the most popular 2 stage reduction drive with slipper clutch that I know of.
Plus proven subjects like motorcycle rims and tires which you will need .

FYI TO ACHIVE 50+ MPH ON AN ELECTRIC BIKE EXPECT TO SPEND 2 GRAND ON BATTERIES ALONE.
WHY NOT JUST GET A QUIET IN FRAME 4 STROKE WITH A SICK BIKE PARTS SHIFT KIT LOTS CHEAPER?

I wouldn't be concerned with the $50 price tag for the book as much as I would be concerned with the $3000 price tag he says his bike design costs to build.... not that any of that $3k is going in the author's pocket, so it's not a scam in THAT sense, but that's a lot of money for a home made electric bike.

Ok....replies to the posts in order-
#1,augidog-thanks for your OPINION...but that's not the point.Top speed never was. and 'Keep it real"? please ... I'll hold on to my own ideas of whats "real"and whats sanctimonious b/s, and if i wanted a real motorcycle id buy one.
#2,hurricane-No one asked for your "feelings" on the matter, no one cares how you "feel".
#3,spad4me, the first real piece of info... thanks, but here in Bloomburgian New York gas engines aren't kosher so its gotta be electric.
As I've said before, top speed isn't the point, I'm a big heavy guy and i need torque, and yes,I'm aware of how much batteries will cost.
Besides, those cheesy little Chinese roto tiller engines just don't look reliable enough.
#4,RedBaronX, i bought the book, it was worth the price just in what not to try and building diagrams alone.
$3000?> i think not, since i already have a good large frame, some mega strong free-ride wheels with 203 mm disc brakes.
I found a good source for the twin batt. set up i want to run. Motor, controller, batt management system, and a few other parts to be ordered from a industrial robotics supplier will all cost approximately $1600 or about the price of a decent brand new Shimano XT equipt disc brake mountain bike... well worth the price of the book.

I understand this one caused a bit of back and forth fighting between certain persons whose opinions of them self's are somewhat over rated.
please, please, gentleman... no need to fight or exchange insults.
you know if your helping or not, if not, please keep your OPINIONS to yourself.
thanks for the help... to the bat cave!... we got some building to do!

I was quoting the author, right off of his site: "Using my guide you can build a bike exactly like mine for a little over $3000 using the lastest technology bike parts and batteries."

@Phantom, its people like you that get bullied in school. Your a moron , and stop with the dumb Private messages to me.

gee phantom, i had you all wrong i guess...somehow i thought you were all about "scary fast"...i wonder how that happened.

please, excuse me for taking you at your word. you've made it clear that's not a good idea, and i assure you i will never make that mistake again.

and thank you for setting me straight, i didn't know i wasn't allowed to express my OPINION.
