What do you think of these new "CNC" manufactured engines?

Below is an interesting offering...

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/66cc-CHROME-...pt=AU_Sport_Cycling_Bikes&hash=item230c2fb4ea

Very cheap price for something CNCed, what do you think?

Just a normal happytime simply painted over with good chrome paint or does it look like it genuinely has better materials but cheap because its made in China?

Would be nice if someone from Sydney, Australia is interested enough to drive to Southwest Sydney to have a look in person (assuming the seller lets you).

I think CNC is standard practise these days. If it ain't CNC then maybe it's 'Hand Crafted' an you'll be payin extra?

welcome

not only do i live in sydney but my motor is a genuine billet rock solid engines motor ...

now that dll looks stock with a bit of polish ...
u do have 3 choices ...

1 buy a rocksolid engine
2 buy a eziridecycle engine

thats what i wanna hear!

everything is now CNC, or at least NC.

quality comes down to program, operator, and machine.

repetivity to .0001 mm, etc etc...been used since the 50's at least (they was using punchcards! like a freakin player piano!)

before the use of electronics, they used "cam" lathes(turrets, capstans, etc)... and everything was worked out with pen and paper, slide rules, and brains.

ppl who knew what they were doing, unlike today...

so, cnc should be MUCH CHEAPER as its a MASS PRODUCTION TOOL.

(though in certain circumstances the old cam lathes can actually be faster and more precise...just noone knows how to set them up anymore. and "CNC" sounds fancy)

iron monkey? isnt it "steel monkey"? (jethro tull, awesome song :) )

Our factories are now located in China and they will do whatever and prosper. CNC is what delivvers and they know. We can be delighted with the price but refuse to know the cost.

Uhhh..... Come on guys. I can see the rough castings on the cooling fins from my iPhone. There is no way producing something by a cnc machine is the cheapest and not everything is made by cnc machines. They make a chrome painted version of this engine... It goes by the name phantom.

The only cnc products for these motors are billet aluminum and are sold by rock solid out of Australia. Their stuff is ridiculously expensive...

Here is a cheap lesson... Don't believe everything you read on eBay.

That is just a chromed engine. There is nothing special about it as far as CNC is concerned.
As far as I know, Manic Mechanic still produces CNC parts as well. They are sold through Pirate Cycles.

I've scoured rock solid cycles and even the only CNC stuff they do are the cylinder head and the actuator. The rest of the engine is standard casting.

Anyway, its not too big a deal CNC or not. Just curious at any new developments in how they are made in the Chinese factories.

That's pretty much what I said.

Only new developments are the ones madated by the EPA... You can bet on it.
