This is my piston covered in black...

I was using a really long ngk iridium plug which came really close to the piston. In fact, the side that is all black is the side the plug is on my slant head.

My questions are:

1) Should I clean it?

2) Can I clean it

3) If yes, with what?

4) Is this out of the ordinary after 250 miles?

Haha, no worries... just curious. I had no idea what it should look like. So obviously no need to clean it right? I mean it's not going to increase the life or anything if I clean it periodically?

Thanks

You think that's bad! You should see my 66cc that lost it's exhaust after I got into a fight with a Jeep Cherokee... I never fixed the exhaust but still ran it and it's CAKED about 2mm thick all across the top. The only thing you'd have to worry about is getting GIGANTIC amounts of it and a piece chipping off, damaging your ring. But we're talking some copius char for that to happen.

If you seriously wanted to clean it tho, you can use a wire brush and gasoline, but yours isn't bad at all, so I wouldn't worry about it.

If it bothers you that much, I'd strongly suggest just getting a new piston, but if you plan on running that same plug, it won't make much a difference.

look at it this way, with more carbon on top of the piston, your piston is taller, which will give you more compression.
he he he

Good deal...I'll leave it alone then, thanks That NGK iridium plug @ SBP is Looong! Longer than the other ngk plugs. I actually had to add a couple washers from another plug to it. It works well though.
