yes! I am working on an inertia driven bicycle in witch the forward motion of a weight suddenly stops and bicycle moves forward. I have not fully understood Weather there is any other advantage to this except there will be literally no physical drive to the gasoline bike. The model now in use utilizes a double pendulum which swings down and breaks in forward position.Of course power is needed to return pendulum to 1:00 position. The goal is to have a small gasoline engine driving a slow weighted flywheel which is weighted offset and breaks in forward position to launch bicycle forward with no chain, friction,or belt drive-james

power lost

should be most efficent model yet-but I am not a mathematician or engineer-will report in the future-have to realize-i hand lift the pendulum to foward position at this time-but when released-it does thrust bicycle foward

It does work...kind of. Check out a plate compactor. They are self propelled....of course they also tamp, ie vibration. All they use is a spinning eccentric weight in which the weight is absorbed by a spring going in one direction, and stopped by an object (tamper body) in the other. It is surprising how much linear force can be generated in this manner. If you stand in front of it, they kind of nuzzle up to you, and then over you if you don't move. A small compactor can develop soil densities of 2000 psi quite easily, but won't work in mud. The vibration is absorbed by the mud, and it just gets stuck.

I also built a model of what you are describing from plans in Popular Science many years ago....same idea, a spinning eccentric. It also worked, but moved rather slowly.

Interesting concept, and has the advantages of simplicity, and no traction concerns. Be interesting to see if the disadvantages out weigh the pluses. Carry on sir.

passenger may be used for the weight

Passenger may be thrust forward on seat and rail-then braked-passenger is the weight.-the vehicle has to be still powered by some force to launch the apparatus. All this does sound insane but with the forward breaking pendulum design I have assembled-the bicycle is powered without pedaling and is thrust forward by the action of pendulum breaking in forward motion. Quite simple, astounding to see,and the bike uses no drive.

Sounds as if you have a working model already... can we see a video of this?

actually not complicated

Think of a water ram.100lbs of water hurls downhill in a pipe reaching speed of 20mph.Valve at bottom of hill suddenly shuts off water, the pressure at valve so tremendous that a small valve opens and water is such high pressure it surges water 5 times higher than down falling water. Throw a rope with a 10 lb weight on one end and hold other-it will pull you off your feet-Throw a 10 lb weight connected to a rope one end-bicycle other-it will launch the bike forward, and with no drive to the wheels-Raise a pendulum attached to bicycle to 1:00-let it drop to 9:00,break it-the bicycle is forced forward. What would be great is if you could simply attach a slow turning gasoline engine to a bike with no drive hookup of any kind and start the engine-the bike lunges forward. It would do this by having the slow turning flywheel of the engine weighted more on one side and breaking to stop in forward position. The flywheel would need to be attached to shaft by gear reducer, clutch, and break, and points would trigger brake when flywheel heavier part is forward.
