I attached the Drive Chain Sprocket to the back wheel and the whole wheel is tilted to the left. Does this mean that the bolts are too tight and tugging on the spokes?

How can I get this wheel true? (It's REALLY crooked, it's touching the bar on the left side)

I read that in this situation, your'e supposed to true the wheel by means of tightening the bolts on the Sprocket, not the spokes.

I've never seen a wheel made untrue by attaching a sprocket.

Like Ron says... put the wheel in the bike centered between the frame stays.
then tighten the axle bolts.
Just make sure the wheel does not move around while you are tightening the axle nuts. Sometimes it's helpful to have an extra pair of hands to hold the wheel in place.

Does the wheel roll true & straight?

I bet that was the problem. I was doing it all myself after all... I'll go back to the shop tomorrow and try re-attaching the wheel completely.

And another semi related question... How tight do those bolts have to be? I'm worried about pulling on the spokes too much

Huh???

start over.... take the wheel off the bike

hold the axle on both sides.... spin the wheel & watch

does it roll straight?

Is the sprocket aligned with the wheel?

can you post some pics of your wheel & sprocket??

I will post those tomorrow. My bike is in my bike shop and I'm home now

If you are asking about the sprocket on the left side with the rag joint...10 foot pounds. I do it in inch pounds .. 120 inch pounds. The bolts are metric 8.8, I trash the nuts and install locking nuts (6mm x 1.00). Once I get them almost tighten, I remove one at a time and install with shorter bolts then add the lock nuts.

i do believe you ar talking the sprocket tighten all bolts so ur just snug now mark the wheel with a marker and star thighten each one no more the one complete turn of the wrench do this to each one and when done start again and again till sproket is good and tight i usually use my thumb as an indicator 4 psi.
