this isn't a request for a "want to buy". This is a question of: does what I am looking for exist?

I've got a Worksman, and the wheels are da bomb-- heavy duty rims, 11 ga spokes... BUT the hub is a coaster brake. I'm not fond of coaster brakes (meaning-- I prefer a freewheel on the back). Worksman has just a couple hub options: single speed coaster, single speed drum, and three speed coaster.

I want to eventually get a shift kit, which needs a multi-speed rear hub to work. I WANT a multi speed drum brake hub (three speeds is probably enough), but all of the hubs I am finding are for 14 ga spokes...

SO! Does anyone know of a multi-speed drum brake hub that accommodates 11 ga spokes?

There are some older 3 spd Sturmey Archers w/ drum brakes on EBAY. The current Nexus internal hubs are available with a roller brake, which is a hand brake that is very similar to a classic drum brake.
I have a a Nexus 7 speed derailleur wheel with a roller bake on my pedal cruiser. Works great but I cannot mount a motor sprocket to it.

I know that Sturmey Archer makes NEARLY the hub I am looking for, but they are for 13-14 gauge spokes, not the 11 gauge spokes of the Worksman wheel. THAT'S the caveat!

Couldnt you drill out the hub holes to make it fit?

And wouldn't you need to buy new spokes, as (most likely) the hub sizes would be different?

:)

it's not about re-using the very same spokes so much as it is about using 11 ga heavy spokes as well as the heavy duty rim that came with the 11 ga spokes...

I only have a cordless hand drill and not a drill press... I would want to find someone with a drill press if I were to go the route of drilling out the holes.

FYI - you should be able to drill 'em out. The wheelmaster did that for my FD generator hub, and put 10 gage spokes in it.

is drilling out the spoke holes a service that bike shops sometimes provide? Obviously not ALL would, but is that something that SOME actually do?
