Noobie to Motor Bicycles and I need your advice.

I am getting $20.00 26" 18 speed Mountian bike (off craigs list) this afternoon and I want to turn it into a Motor Bicycle. I am an Southern California so I will need a four stroke I also want to keep it under 50cc so I dont have to register it.

I will use it to commute to work 10 miles each way.

What brand do you guys recommend? Are these any good?

why do you say you need a four stroke in southern california? i got a 2 stroke and never get hassled.

I've got a friction drive with a Subaru EH035 4 stroke engine which has a California "Air Index" of 1.33 which is apparently very good.

Some one told me that 2 strokes where not going to be sold in Cali any more. I have not had time to research that yet.

What would you recommend 2 stroke wise?

I know you don't want to hear this but if you put a Gas Motor on a bike in Calif. No Matter What Size, you do need at least an M2 endorsement on your DL and you do need to fill out DMV Form 230 and mail it and $19.00 to Sacramento to get a License Plate. You also have to wear a DOT Motorcycle Helmet and have a left side mirror. Electric Bikes are the only Motorized Bikes Exempt from these Rules.
