Will This Rear Sprocket Work?

Freewheeling

WOW I little to nothing about that the more I read about it the more I realize what I know is closer to nothing than little also the trike I had planned to use has a step through design and not right for the HT I am sure I can get all I need to convert a bike from CYCLES U S if I knew what all was needed to do it looks like a lot more study for me

Building a trike was a big (huge) learning curve for me. Took almost 6 months of trial and error to get it "good enough" to ride. Other people make trikes you can buy & ride. I didn't like the looks of those. I can't ride some grandma trike, it's gotta look cool.
Don't give up on it. Just think about what you want and do it. if it dont work this way do it that way if ya know what I mean. All anyone can do is give you a few ideas. In the end you have to build it your way, You're the one thats gonna ride it. BUT, If you have any questions at all I'll do my best to answer them. If you have to step back from it for a minute to think about it or rethink a design, Cool. I did that 2 or 3 times before I finished mine. I'm no genius, I built a trike with a 39 1/2 I.Q.:giggle:, So if I can do it anyone can. Anything worth doing takes time.
You can use a step through frame with the HT engine. you just have to mount the tank elswhere,(No biggie.) I've seen tanks mounted on handle bars, Rear racks and under seats. As long as it's above the HT carb for the gravity feed of fuel.
Also, If you might want to build a "cheap to build" recumbent trike, I have one you might want to check out. It hits close to 30mph with a 49cc go-ped engine. I call her Tri-Baby. It had a 33cc on it. upgraded to 49cc and it made a big difference. From 22mph to almost 30mph. You can check it out in my album. It's all bolt together except the rear sprocket setup. It's a real kick to ride. I put her together with mostly left over parts in my garage. The only hard part was coming up with the main frame. Everything else is trailer wheels, goped parts and bicycle parts.
Whatever way you decide to go I'll be here for any questions.

You wern't really trying to do "all this" from yer phone were ya? Ya can't get good shots of the pics. And typing everything out on a small pad, That's gotta be an experience I wouldn't even try.
Anyway, Glad to know you can enjoy the site a little better now. I'm sure yer going back to all the old posts and seeing them in a new light.
I hope you haven't given up on the trike build. It is a little more involved than the simpler two wheel build but well worth it. ANY help you need just ask. Thats part of the reason we're all here, to help where we can.

The Meteor...

Hi there. If you would care to scroll down this first page of the Trike Forum to 'Trailmate Meteor & Gas Power' Open the thread and go to my post #41, there are numerous pictures of my trike build. Especially shots of the under carriage so you can see how it is geared. That is, nice and simple.

The chain coming off of the gear box is connected to a 'freewheel' on the right rear axle. The pedal gears are connected to the left axle and they both work independent.

To keep the collars and sprockets from twisting, I bought 1/2" setscrews at Ace Hardware, and once I got the collar or sprocket lined up, I used a 1/4" drill bit on my electric drill and inserted it thru the setscrew hole and just gave it enough of a tap to put a dimple in the shaft, then I tightened down the setscrew. Worked like a charm, and nothing has twisted or come loose yet. Good Luck...Patrick
