I was changing my fuel lines yesterday/today becuase I was getting some fuel leakage, turns out the threads that hold the main adjustment screw in on the carb body are no longer there when I took the screw out, some of the threads came out with it like they were broken off. Short of it the main adj. screw wont tighten. NO..I didnt strip it, I actually never even adjusted it. So My question is is there a fix, prob not. Who has an extra lower end of a Tillotson ML5A, what would one expect to pay for one. Is there an affordable carb replacement out there? I really dont want the riding season to be over already, but a quick look on e-bay and the internet turns up nothing..which means expensive.

I can loan you a carb for the weekend if you're coming to my rally

Thanks for the offer Jay, as you probabally know I wont be at the rally:bigcry:
I had to mod my carb to use a walbro type swivel, return spring and a twist throttle. I am SUPER BUMMED !!!!
I can get a carb body from memory lane, but it means re-building the carb and my vacation is over on the 8th which means back to the 70 hr work weeks ( :poop: :poop::poop:)and little time.

Hi Chainmaker,

Send me your carburetor right away and I will see if I can fix it.
The bottom main jet adjustment doesn't have threads but a small gasket/washer/seal to hold it in place when adjusted. The brass nut around the jet is to be tightened to restrict the jet from un-screwing.
Have fun,

Thanks Quenton,
Here is what I have first pic you can clearly see the threads and the second pic you can kind of see inside the carb body where threads used to be and where they still are. just to make sure they are threads i put a sewing needle inside and lightly dragged it down the side and could definitely hear the tic, tic,tic of the needle riding over the threads that are left. Do I perhaps have some oddball version of the carb?

This morning, Chainmaker put the bike up for sale and I've bought it. The carb problem will be mine and I will be in touch.

I'd like to know how you ship bikes. This is going to cross the country.

Mike

Congrats on your purchase.

I haven't shipped any complete motorbikes bikes, so I don't have a clue on shipping methods.

I can tell you the motor was from Ohio, purchashed from a collector in Maryland, rebuilt in North Carolina, ridden in North Carolina, purchased by Chainmaker in PA, and now going to WA. Must say that motor has been around, I even logged a few miles on it along the way!

Have fun,
