Give Away Free Solex engines

FREE SOLEX ENGINES. I have 4 solex engines built in China as described in the BGF Hongdu/Solex thread below. I am cleaning out my shop and would like to give them away.
http://motorbicycling.com/showthread.php?t=27150
I purchased these engines new from a vendor in Canada. I mounted them on two different bikes as shown in the pictures attached. I have had a lot of fun with these engines adapting them to my bikes. They are very quiet and smooth. However, I have found the engines to be quite unreliable and require a lot of tinkering to keep them running well. I never did follow all of the modification suggested in the thread so that is probably the reason. This was my first experience with motor bicycling and was hooked after my first ride. I decided that I wanted a motorbike that was more powerful and reliable. I have found the perfect combination for me is the Honda 4 cycle, 1.6 hp engine with the Staton friction drive using either the 1" or 1.125" roller (weight is 195#).
If you want these engines you need to be prepared to spend the time with them to get them running well. The engines are complete except for all of cables and hand controls. The engines have less than 2 hours run time each. I would suggest getting two engines so that one can be used for parts if needed. Since nothing is really free, I need to charge for packing and shipping to your location. I have an estimate from UPS for packing of $18 to $20 each and a packaged weight of 23 to 25 #. You can figure out the total cost shipped to your location. If you are able to pick them up from my house in Salt Lake City, they will then be free.

Somehow i think a monster has already been created. The word has got out and another 2,000 people have joined the site to get their hands on the Solex engines. It's become a war out there with people clawing each others eyes out trying to queue jump the line.

I hear that some are even trying to bribe moderators with cash to be the first in line and those moderators refusing monetary incentive are having lewd propositions put forward by those willing to sell their body and/or other favours of a graphic and exposing nature.

A monster has been created and it can't be stopped.

Just my 2 cents, give one each to the 1st four takers in order they asked and let them pay shipping.

I have decided to not ship any of the Solex engines. I don't feel right about charging packing and shipping cost when I have no idea what shape the engines are now in. I will keep the engines in storage at my house. If anyone can pick them up in
Salt Lake City, they are free.

How is that supposed to work?

The moment people find out where you live, you'll need the LA Riot squad to tame the 5,000 people fighting and trying to crawl their way forward to be the first to get a Solex engine.

Holy smokes, i'll be hearing about this event on the news in Australia, as your street is turned to rubble upon surveying the aftermath of events.

Maybe i'm being overly optimistic about the situation

Then do this man a favor and straighten this situation out. You should get on the first airplane from Australia and relieve this man of the 4 engines before anymore mayhem takes place:)

No, no,no

You don't understand - i want to sit back with popcorn and watch the mayhem unfold as 5,000 people turn to savages, employing cave man mentality, arming themselves with whatever they can tear out of the ground, just like a large department store "boxing day" sale with 70% mark-downs - it's a bad day for business when at least 50 people are not lying in the hospital intensive care ward from their shopping injuries.

I'm wondering if the OP's wife knows about this little plan to sell free Solex engines and the ramifications of such actions on a quiet and peaceful and civilised neighbourhood, because the neighbourhood is going to look like the opening scene in Paris of the movie """Team America - World Police""" :devilish:

VeloSolex engines any other parts

Hiya Willy,

I understand your not wanting to ship the Solex engines when you do not know what shape they are in.

I have just purchased a 1975 VeloSolex and am looking for parts for it. It has an engine on it, however, I don't know if it works. I am wanting to fix it up and use it to get back and forth to work. I'll need a gas tank and some controls, as you can see from the pics.

Are you sure you don't want to sell the engines? If not, do you have any other parts that you do want to give away? I understand if you don't... just thought I would give it a shot.

Barbie, its been 3 years since he even had the engines. No offense read the date on the original post. He hasn't posted about them since, so I doubt he has any left or any other parts.
