what temp do these engines run at?

hey all. ive been contemplating swapping my very first engine kit onto a new bike seeing as the 40 year old bicycle's wheel bearings are shot after about 6,000 miles. (about 1/2" of play at the top of the 26" wheels, making it unsafe to ride) and in the process id like to paint the engine, but i dont want to go to the trouble of painting it to just end up with burned paint. i would just use header paint, but that makes my options very limited.

so long story short, need to know the higher end of the operating temps to have as a reference when i go to the store.

Most engines run a max cylinder head temp around 500 deg F.
Looks cool when you paint the engine side covers the same color as the bike frame.
The side covers do not get nearly as hot as the cylinder head and exhaust.

thanks for the tips guys. i think ill go header paint black and fake chrome on the covers. im going to have to paint the engine. i soaked it in degreaser and half the chinese 7 year+ old paint came off clean in a bunch of places. had to soak er in wd-40 till i get a chance to paint it.

I would keep it 300-325 max and use at least 20% castor oil in your blend. 500 deg F is too hot.

1/2" of play at the top? If they are the cup and cone type of bearings, like all I've ever seen, you can tighten them up to get rid of the play

i have, several times. the bearings and they're cups are just too worn out. 1200 motored miles on an already 40 year old bike just killed them.
