I somewhat recently purchased a centrifugal clutch on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/160700009251?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 and I'm having some trouble getting it installed. I bought this http://www.ebay.com/itm/160673174595?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 gear puller but it doesn't quite fit. The gear puller's threading just barely does not fit into the gear I need to pull. I bought this a month or two ago and just said oh well and stuck with the manual clutch. But I still have the part and would like to install it. The item description says it's supposed to work " for 48cc, 49cc, 50cc, 70cc, 80cc 2 cycle engine." I have a 49cc engine. Not sure who makes it honestly I bought it on ebay as well...
Also have a pull starting coming in the mail, hoping that install goes better.

that tool and the gear both need to be clean & very carefully threaded together (with the lock washer out so it goes in deep) - only one that has been screwed in crooked will have thread problems, but that can be fixed with a thread file

yers, the puller... one is usually supplied with every kit.

the threads are indeed, very fine and easy to cross thread.

also, what with chinese manufacturing tolerances, you may find that after several kits you only have one puller that fits everything!

meh. clean the threads. wire brush and all that. remove/ back off centre bolt first.

depending on access to stuff, you can make a puller with some flat plate and bolts. bit of ingenuity helps :)

um. try heating the gear with a blowtorch? try to heat only the gear and dont get it toooo hot or youll need a new crank seal. an idea to order some high quality seals anyway and pop one in. saves doing it later.

remove the clutch gear, and carefully use a claw hammer/pry bar? lol. ive tried everything at some point!

Thanks for the suggestions. I managed to get the thing threaded in finally, only just though. It was an incredibly tight fit. Centrifugal clutch and pull starter are both installed now. Which brought a new problem.... They were in the way of the pedals -_- Managed to remedy that by running to ace to buy some parts to mount the engine a little higher. All's well now... Probably won't last long though...

The centrifugal clutch will not be reliable in standard form.
It needs a simple modification to give it the required reliability for long term use.

I actually decided to take it off already... Maybe my imagination but it felt like I lost a lot of power. Took it off a few hours ago and it feels like the lost power has been restored. It was also creating a terribly noise, but that my not have been the clutch. The engine shifted a little on my way to work and started vibrating... Hands were numb when I got to work and I think I ma have rattled out a few fillings :s All tightened up again now though. I think I'll just stick with manually clutching, its really not that much work.

It is completely your imagination.

The (possible) noise you are hearing is from the clutch pins scraping on the inside of the clutch cover, because you need extra gaskets to pack it out.
Once you've had a centrifugal clutch that gives perfect reliability, you will never go back to manual clutch operation.

Do a Google search for,

"Centrifugal Clutch - 48cc, 60cc, 66cc, 80cc - pull-start/pedal-start, 2 stroke"

and the modification can be found with a Google search for,

"Lubrication port > Modified Centrifugal Clutch - 48cc, 60cc, 66cc, 70cc, 80cc - pull-start/pedal-start, 2 stroke"
