hi just wondering what oil should i use in my 49cc motor? its my first 4 stroke! (built over 15 two strokes) ? i think 10-30 is the one but not sure and synthetic or not? and would 10-30 motul dirtbike oil be okay? please help thanks :)

I use Shell Rotella T triple protection 10w-30. Its conventional (not synthetic) but its diesel oil, so its got additives you wont find in synthetic oil, such as zinc, which is good for engines. Your hs engine should hold 8 oz of oil. I dont have a hs though, I have a minibike engine, but rotella should work fine for you.

Break it in with dino, then move to Mobil 1 of your choice. If you don't care just make sure to change regular, as long as it's fairly clean these little engines are happy.

thanks guys i put in briggs and stratton SAe 30 motor oil, i hope thats okay? and its running ok, seems like its revving way too high on full throttle tho? stock china ebay kit gearbox and 44 tooth sprocket, thanks

its a cheap industrial engine. if the bottle says "engine oil", use it :) anything else is wasting money.

how fast you going? 44t is irrelevant without tyre diameter.

sounds like ahoot gearbox which is a POS and soon the conrod will snap... try a 36 or even 28 tooth...

yeas 26" big heave coco cola steel cruiser. i use a custom HD wheel with sprocket on hub and cant really chang gearing, ill buy a tacho tho, its 7800 rpm redline right? and thanks

let me see if I understand this... you do not know what oil to run but yet you swear you POS hoot type trans is reliable???? Butter soft sprockets and chains that stretch within 300 miles and can not be adjusted. NONE have been known to last 5000 miles unlike a 4G or a Qmatic.
You have a clone of a Honda GX50... now look up an owners manual for that motor and will give you that information plus what to set valve lash at and how.

surely the hub was set up so the sprocket is replaceable?

on a 26" wheel...without knowing exactly what gearbox you have... 44t is usually right.

depends...do you live where its flat and can go with lower gearing, or have enough steep hills to warrant it revving but able to conquer any hill?

i wouldnt take it too far past 7800 as redline.

thanks, i have had 4 of these motors and trans before, used 10-40 mx bike oil but told it was wrong so i asked here, i also got a tacho today and on the flat she does 41kph :-/
and at 7,650 ish rpm? if im happy with speed- i cruise at 35 max is this ok? :)

I like the HS 49cc, I get the gasbike center mount 4-stroke kits with the 4G belt drive and just use whatever cheap non-synthetic 30w oil is handy for the first hour of operation, then change it to whatever synthetic oil is on sale for use from then on.

Just an oil change tip...
Do it often and make it easy and clean to do with a little tool like a big syringe and piece of gas line.

I don't know where you buy them, these were used for giving my Pop's med's through his stomach feeding tube before he passed but they sure make it easy to remove the old oil and then put in new oil.

Forget about the useless dip stick, just fill until the oil hits the bottom of the threads of the fill hole.

One more tip...
Keep an empty oil bottle around to discard the old oil but but before you squirt it in squirt some on your chains ;-}
