see someone screwed it up for us in ontario

Your taking a risk just getting out of bed in the morning so if u want to play it safe lock yourself away in a bank vault...that's safe but it's not living.
They say "all publicity is good publicity" but that's rubbish.......some things don't need unwarranted attention, especially if your reporting the facts incorrectly.

Accidents will happen and people will be injured and some may die. Everything we do has some inherent risk. While you don't expect to die hopping in your car and going a few miles down the road to the quickie mart, it is possible. We don't ban automobiles because of it. As mentioned, people get injured or killed on non-motorized bikes every day - it would be ridiculous to require licensing, insurance and registration for a pedal bicycle, wouldn't it?

You're probably right, unfortunately todays societies attitudes probably don't agree. The attitudes and mores seem to go from overly lenient to overly strict in cycles. It may not be right, but it is the law, or at least the interpretation of it, and if we don't follow the dictates, we are considered a criminal. When I was a child, we didn't have child proof containers, seatbelts, people fell off bicycles, heck :D I even ran in hallways carrying a pointed scissors. It was accepted. In an attempt to protect us from ourselves, all this has changed. Is it a good thing, or a bad thing, I don't know either, but it definitely cramps my style.

But is there any harm in resurrecting a thread that has died?

It's true that the OP, and contributors, are not likely to see the new additions. But others will. And they'll ponder the info contained.

So should a thread ever be dead-for-good?

2008! Holy smokes.

Well if someone reads this and kicks safety up a notch or four, I don't see the harm in resurrection.

Point taken, but if it's old enough for elementary school, I'm of the opinion "just start a new thread".

Thinking about it, there's another reason that I actually like seeing old threads pop up.

It's the chance to see posts from some of the old members who have now disappeared. I miss most of them. They were mostly good natured and sometimes humorous. It'd be nice to see them back here again.

There's one in this thread, even, who I argued with fairly often. I didn't think of him as a friend at all. But he had some redeeming qualities. I even kinda, sorta miss him for that. Don't miss him too much, mind you. But a little bit.

Many of those folks were quite likable. It's a shame they've moved on.

I believe you're right, and I'm wrong.I only search what's on my mind, or read new threads, if someone bumps a thread with info that I wouldn't search, but is useful, I may learn something.

I've been guilty a few times of not looking at the posting date. I bet the guy would have been a LOT better off if he was wearing a helmet, BUT , not gonna get into that AGAIN, LOTS of helmet posts and threads already.
Big Red.
